Complex projects -
performance and
scalability
BIM and digital twins, as well as the trends towards larger
projects, more sophisticated geometric shapes, greater
detail development, and more and more dependencies,
are substantially increasing the amount of computing
power required. For this reason, the focus during the
development of Allplan 2021 was on optimum
performance.
This new version significantly accelerates processing
speed through efficient software architecture, enhanced
algorithms, and optimized data management. So, you get
a tool that saves you time and enables you to
productively work on projects.
In addition, there are new features for roofs,
reinforcement, structural framing, finishes, attributes,
views and sections, visual scripting, interfaces, and
Allplan Share.

Associative framework
The associative framework manages all associations in a project,
such as associative labels, dimensions, legends, views, and sections.
Therefore, enhancements affect all projects that include
associations, applying to everything that you do with objects in the
project, such as creating, copying, moving, deleting, and so on.
• You can undo and redo changes more quickly.
• Associations will be computed and updated more quickly.
• You can associatively dimension finish specifications in sections.
Allplan detects finish specifications of rooms, ceilings, floors, and
stories. You can snap points (starting point, end point, midpoint)
of finish specifications in sections.
• If there are errors while reading the associations, Allplan loads the
last backup that is correct. You can see a message to this effect.
To make sure that there is a correct backup, Allplan backs up the
associations after having successfully read them. This backup will
not be overwritten when you save the data.
Drawing files
You can open more drawing files for the model and for views and
sections. Instead of 128 drawing files, 1024 drawing files can be open
at the same time.
Document size
To define the document size, open the Services application and
select Service - Hotline Tools - doc size. The document size is now
512 MB by default.
This prevents problems with a full memory.
Data format
Allplan 2021 uses the same data format as Allplan 2020. We
strongly recommend that you use the same Allplan version for
working in a workgroup and on Allplan Share projects.
Don’t mix computers running Allplan 2020 and Allplan 2021 in a
workgroup environment.
To illustrate the uniform data format, Allplan displays the version
number 2020/21 in all places where you can see the program
version of projects or drawing files.

Accelerated hidden-line images of views

and sections
As vector-based hidden-line images of complex models require
more computing time, Allplan initially creates quick, pixel-based
hidden-line images when you place views and sections in the
workspace. The data will be computed by the processor and the
graphics card.
Note that accelerated hidden-line images might look different from
vector-based hidden-line images. While Allplan is computing the
vector-based hidden-line image in the background, you can use the
accelerated hidden-line image to create dimensions and labels.
Layout editor
You can switch to Layout Editor more quickly. Depending on the
data, computation is now considerably faster.
For example, you work in a workgroup environment and you have
changed but not yet updated model data in views and sections.
When you switch to Layout Editor, a dialog box asks whether you
want to update the drawing file data. You do not need to update the
data if you only want to rearrange the layout elements or if you have
accidentally selected the Layout Editor task area.
If you have omitted to update the drawing file data, you can do this
manually by means of the Update Layout tool. Note that Allplan
always updates reinforcement data when you switch to Layout
Editor, The same applies to drawing file data when you select the
Print Layouts tool.

• We enhanced finish specifications, vertical surfaces, and the
quality of the architectural model.
• Architectural models will be loaded and updated more quickly.
• Polygonal sections will be processed more quickly in views and
sections.
• You can snap points in rooms and layers of finish specifications in
models, views, and sections.
• Associative legends and reports will be computed more quickly.
• You can snap points and benefit from a faster selection preview
for general 3D objects (freeform objects) as wireframe models
and in viewports of the animation view type.
• Rooms and finish specifications under freeform reference
surfaces will correctly be displayed and computed; point snap and
selection preview are available for layers of finish specifications.
• You can create finish specifications with no thickness.
• You can edit complex floor slabs and upper slabs more quickly.
• When you change complex floor slabs or upper slabs, Allplan
updates the adjoining components only when this is necessary.

Enhanced Actionbar Configurator
You can use the Actionbar to configure all tools that are included in
the current license. All other tools are grayed out.
All tools are visible in Actionbar Configurator and Shortcut Configurator

Actionbar Configurator
The Actionbar Configuration dialog box - Configure tab lists all
tools. To open this dialog box, select the Actionbar Configurator
tool on the right side of the Actionbar. Tools that are not available in
your current Allplan version have semitransparent symbols. If roles
contain such tools, you can see the following ToolTip: tool name (no
license). These tools are not visible on the Actionbar.

If entire tasks are not included in your license package, these tasks
are gray in Actionbar Configurator and you can see the following
ToolTip: task name (no license). These tasks are not visible on the
Actionbar.
Shortcut Configurator
Shortcut Configurator shows all tools of all task areas, including tools
that are not activated in your current Allplan version. To open
Shortcut Configurator, select the Shortcuts tool in the
Default Settings drop-down list on the Quick Access Toolbar.
Inactive tools have semitransparent symbols.
New task areas in Actionbar Configurator and Shortcut Configurator

Both Actionbar Configurator and Shortcut Configurator come with
two new task areas.
• Window task area: Includes tools from the Window drop-down
list (Quick Access Toolbar), viewport toolbar, and View menu
(menu bar).
• Help task area: Contains the tools from the Help drop-down list
(title bar of the Allplan window).
You can also find tools of these two task areas in other places in the
program. As requested by you, our customers, we have combined
these tools in these two task areas.
Nonloaded plug-ins are visible in Actionbar Configurator and Shortcut

Configurator
Actionbar Configurator
The Actionbar Configuration dialog box - Configure tab shows
plug-ins that are configured on the Actionbar but not available in
Allplan. To open this dialog box, select the Actionbar
Configurator tool on the right side of the Actionbar. Plug-ins will be
included when you save the configuration.actb file. A user can
give an Actionbar configuration to another user who can edit it.
When the original user gets the configuration.actb file back,
this file still contains the plug-ins configured, even if they were not
available to the user who edited the file.
Nonloaded plug-ins are visible in Actionbar Configurator, where you
can handle them like any other tool. These plug-ins are not visible on
the Actionbar.
Shortcut Configurator
Shortcut Configurator shows plug-ins that are not available in
Allplan. You can even assign keyboard shortcuts to these plug-ins.
To open Shortcut Configurator, select the Shortcuts tool in the
Default Settings drop-down list on the Quick Access Toolbar.
Creating roles in Actionbar Configurator

When you create a new role on the Configure tab ( Actionbar
Configurator tool on the right side of the Actionbar), you can see all
roles, including roles that are not available to you due to your license.
These roles have gray symbols.
A total of 10 roles plus 1 custom role are available to you, irrespective

of your license.

Properties palette
We are working on moving all properties from the dialog boxes for
defining and modifying objects to the Properties palette.
• The Properties palette displays attributes that cannot be
changed.
• The familiar Change properties of the selected object icon

opens the Properties dialog box of the object. Earlier versions
used the icon.
• There is the new Style function (only for Wall for the time
being).
• The Properties palette displays the wall structure as a preview.
You can change the wall axis independently of the style. You
cannot change the layer thickness in the Properties palette.
You can find further information about Styles in Parameters
as resources: styles (see "Saving and assigning parameters as
styles" on page 32).
• You can use the Properties palette to define and change
attributes for user-defined architectural elements, converted
user-defined architectural elements, and element groups.
IFC attributes in the Properties palette

You can use the Properties palette to assign the IfcObjectType
attribute to converted user-defined architectural elements with
curves that you converted from general 3D objects.
This has already been possible for conventional user-defined
architectural elements and converted, polygonal user-defined
architectural elements.
Objects palette
• Elements in drawing files can be moved more quickly while the
Objects palette is open.
• When working on complex projects, you can cancel the selection
of objects much more quickly by means of the Objects palette.
• You can select empty drawing files in the Objects palette. For
example, this is useful when you want to move objects to another
drawing file.
• Sort by attribute:
If the Sort by attribute criterion comes first, you can see the total
wall plus the wall layers.
In addition, you can sort walls by the Style name attribute. When
you use the Style name attribute, you can see only the total wall;
the wall layers are not visible.
• Some 3D objects (for example, SmartParts for opening elements)
could not be made transparent in earlier versions. When you
made a component (for example, a wall) transparent and this
component contained such objects (for example, SmartParts for
opening elements), these objects simply became invisible.
You can now turn the transparency of SmartParts and
PythonParts manually on and off. This means that you can
change the transparency of these objects from 0% to
100% and vice versa.
You can also select different degrees of transparency for
surfaces.
Note: These settings apply to the animation view type only.

Planes palette
The Planes palette sorts planes by absolute height.
In earlier versions, the Planes palette listed offset planes, roofscapes,

and reference surfaces in the order in which they were entered.
The parts that make up the plane model will be sorted by structural
level as follows:
• The list starts with the upper and lower default planes,
• followed by the other reference planes in the order of absolute
height, starting with the highest value.
• When you change the height, the order automatically adapts.
Creating components
When you create components, you can select reference planes from
a drawing file or plane model by clicking the Select reference plane
button in the Height and Relative height dialog boxes. Here, too, the
reference planes will be listed in the new order.
Issue Manager palette

Chronologies of issues
You can see all changes made to an issue in chronological order
(author, date, time, and type of change).
Select the Issue Manager - Details palette. Go to the Issue
properties area and click Reports.

Selection of surfaces in isometric viewports enhanced
When you select surfaces (no edges found in the area selected), the
distance from the observer is now a criterion.
This makes it easier for you to select objects - such as walls - in
isometric viewports because Allplan no longer adds walls in the
background to the selection.

The Find tool in the building structure

When you select the Find tool in the Open on a project-specific
basis: drawing files from fileset/building structure dialog box, the
Find in selected areas option is now selected by default. When you
find and replace terms in a drawing file name, this option prevents
you from inadvertently changing names in invisible areas of the
building structure or in the entire building structure. This is
particularly useful for complex structures.
Restore 3D view enhanced

When computing floor areas, Allplan usually adds openings in walls
between rooms to the room to which the door swing points.
The Restore 3D View sometimes turned around the position of

the opening. As a result, the opening was no longer assigned to the
correct room. Window niches were not included in floor area
calculations either. We solved this problem.

Attributes can now have the status <undefined>. So, you
can see immediately which attributes are already
assigned. This reduces the risk of incorrect information.
Allplan attributes now also support formulas so that you
can combine or compute values from other attributes.
This makes input much easier and helps you avoid
inconsistent information.

Changing the office standard for projects

When the office standard changes, you can update attributes of
existing projects and adapt these attributes to the changed office
standard without overwriting project-specific attributes that you
changed or added beforehand. To do this, click the button next to
Attributes in the Project Settings.
• A dialog box tells you how many attributes will be added, changed,
deleted, or renamed during the update.
• Click Details to list the attribute names.
• Click OK to confirm. The attributes will be updated when you click
OK to confirm the Project Settings dialog box.
Citing attributes
You can cite an existing Allplan attribute when you create a new
custom attribute whose name is predefined (for example, for
exchanging BIM data). The new custom attribute returns the value of
the cited attribute.
When you create the attribute, use the Text data type and the
Formula control element. Select the required Allplan attribute in the
Formula editor.

In Allplan you can now define custom attributes with formulas that
return the attribute values.
To create these formula attributes, use the Assign Attributes or

Modify Attributes tool. Open the Attribute Selection dialog box
and click Define new attribute.
• Select the new Formula control element for the Text data type in
the Define new attribute dialog box.
• Click to open the Formula editor and enter the formula; the
symbol indicates a syntax error. Define the formula as you
would define a formula for a label style.
Formula editor
The Formula editor provides you with everything you need to
define formulas. So, you can enter formulas and formula attributes
quickly and easily.
Properties palette
Formula attributes are represented by in the Properties palette.
A red exclamation point in the symbol indicates that the formula
cannot be computed:
• There is a syntax error in the formula.
• The attribute cannot be computed for this object (for example,
material for the total wall).
<Undefined> attribute value

You can assign the <undefined> value to attributes of an object. For
example, this is useful if you cannot define the value yet. As a result,
you can immediately see which attributes have not been assigned
yet.
• So that you can switch an attribute value to <undefined>, you
need a list of all attributes of the required object. For example, you
see such a list when you assign or modify attributes in the
Properties palette or Modify Attributes dialog box.
• Right-click an attribute name and select Set to <undefined> on
the shortcut menu.
• You can also select the <undefined> status for attribute values
that you define by selecting check boxes. The check boxes are
filled or grayed out.
• IFC export ignores attributes of the <undefined> status.
Defining your own project attributes

In earlier versions, you could choose only from predefined attributes
when you assigned attributes to projects. If you need other
attributes, you can now define your own, user-specific project
attributes by means of Allplan Attribute Manager.

The XSLX Excel format is now the default format for the Export
Attributes and Export Quantity Data tools. For easy data
handling, we recommend that you make the required changes in
Excel. You no longer need XCA files or XAC files.

Workgroup Online
To optimize the interaction between Allplan and Allplan
Bimplus, you can now start the Bimplus Viewer directly
from Allplan without any intermediate steps. This makes
it possible, for example, to view your own model together
with models from other disciplines (for example, MEP)
and place them in the overall context. In addition, you can
now download reinforcement from Allplan Bimplus for
further detailing in Allplan.
To reduce communication over the internet to an
absolute minimum, Allplan Share now consistently
avoids uploads, downloads, and queries that are not
absolutely necessary by tracking changes and
intelligently caching files and information. To further
accelerate Allplan Share, we introduced multi-threading
and switched to mass operations. All in all, Allplan Share
has once again been significantly accelerated so that you
can work productively even with less than optimal
internet connections.

Allplan Share reduces communication over the internet to an
absolute minimum by consistently avoiding uploads, downloads, and
queries that are not absolutely necessary. To achieve this, Allplan
Share tracks changes and intelligently caches files and information.
To further accelerate Allplan Share, we introduced multi-threading
and switched to mass operations.
All in all, you can work with Allplan Share much faster in an optimized
manner:
• You can open and close projects, drawing files, and layout editor
more quickly.
• When you select the project, you can see the Allplan version of
the project.
Legends, label styles

When you copy legends and label styles by using Manage Label
Styles, Legends, you can also select Allplan Share projects as the
destination.

Version 2021 no longer provides the Allplan Workgroup Online
option.
If you want to work online on joint projects, please use the Allplan
Share option (not free of charge) together with the openBIM
platform BIMPLUS, which is based on the latest technologies.

In structural framing you can now modify multiple
properties for several columns and beams in a single step
and simultaneously apply favorites to several objects.
You have more options for editing roof surfaces. Roof
surfaces can now be added and removed again.
You can now define a wall style for walls of the same
structure. Wall styles help you structure information
better. In addition, they simplify changes and enhance
data exchange.

Style (only for walls for the time being)
You can define a Style for identical-looking walls with the same
settings. A Style works like a wall favorite; the only difference is
that the style will be saved with the object. When you assign a
different style, the object changes. A Style behaves like a
resource (for example, hatching).
Saving and assigning parameters as styles

Style and favorite are alike in many respects: Both store parameters
and settings of an object so that you can use them again later.
• A favorite contains all settings of a dialog box when you define an
object. When you retrieve this favorite, exactly these settings
appear in the dialog box again; you can use them to create the
object (for example, a wall). After you have created the object,
the favorite is no longer linked with the object.
• A style also contains properties of an object (walls only),

including parameters, attributes, format properties, and surface
elements. However, a style does not include the object’s height,
axis, or offset direction. These parameters define the object’s
position relative to the overall model. Therefore, it must be
possible to change them at any time.
• Unlike a favorite, a style will be saved with the object (the wall).
When you assign a different style, the object changes.
To create a Style, define the required parameters in the

Properties dialog box of the object ( Wall). Use Save as a style
to save the style in the required path (Office, Project, or Private).
The file format for wall styles is *.wastyle.
To assign a style to an object (for example, a wall), you use the
Properties palette, regardless of whether you create or modify the
object. Select one or more objects, such as walls, and select a
style in the drop-down list of the palette. This style must already
be defined and available in the project. New objects get the settings
defined in the style. In modification mode, all selected objects

immediately get the settings defined in the style.
When you click to select a style from another path, Allplan

replicates the style - like textures - to the project. Select <off> in the
drop-down list to turn off the style; the object’s settings and
parameters do not change.
Note: Allplan comes with a selection of styles (...\ETC\Styles -

standard). When creating the wall, open the Styles - standard path
in the Properties palette and select the required style.
You can change the parameters of an object with a style at any time;
changed parameters are indicated by an asterisk (*) preceding the
style name.
You can see a preview of the wall structure in the Properties palette.
Changes to the height settings, axis, or offset direction do not
affect the style. You cannot change the layer thickness in the
Properties palette.
Like patterns, hatching, or layers, styles are project resources.

Consequently, styles are part of the project backup or of a project
template created from the project backup.

Allplan 2021 comes with s selection of wall styles (...\ETC\Styles -
standard). When creating the wall, open the Styles - standard path
in the Properties palette and select the required style.
Select and confirm a style to replicate it into the project. You can
then select this style in the Styles - project path.
Wall preview
When you drew multilayer walls in earlier versions, the preview
showed the component axis and number of construction layers. Due
to performance reasons, surface elements (hatching, pattern, fill) of
the construction layers were not visible in the preview. Therefore,
the offset direction was indicated by an arrow, and the position of the
first construction layer was marked with the number 1.

This is no longer necessary in the current version of Allplan because

surface elements are visible in the preview. So, you can see the
offset direction and the construction layers at a glance.

Straight wall, rectangular wall

When drawing a Straight Wall or a Rectangular Wall, you will
hardly notice any differences between the current version and
earlier versions (except the wall preview).
Entering a Rectangular Wall works just like entering a 2D

rectangle. The Wall context toolbar now includes the Based on
diagonal line, Based on baseline, Based on center line, and
Based on center point input options.
Curved wall
Entering a Curved Wall works just like entering a 2D circle based
on two points and the radius.
It is now easier for you to enter curved walls: As soon as you click
the first point, you can see the preview complete with all
construction layers and surface elements. By the way, you do not
need to enter the first point again when you have switched from
another wall type to the curved wall.
After you have entered the end point, you can see two auxiliary lines
in construction-line color. Click a point to define the radius or enter it
in the dialog line. You can change the radius as long as you do not
select the Enter key.

When you have found the radius, you can also click in the workspace

Circular wall
Entering a Circular Wall works just like entering a 2D circle.
You can use the following new options, which work just like the ones
for entering 2D circles:
• Enter full circle
• Enter end angle
• Enter end angle based on delta angle
• Enter end angle based on arc length

The following two options are not available:
• Circle based on 2 points
• Circle based on 2 points and radius, diameter
To enter a full circle, use the Enter full circle option. It is no longer
possible to enter the midpoint and radius followed by the Esc key.
Polygonal wall, inscribed and circumscribed

Polygonal Wall (Inscribed) and Polygonal Wall
(Circumscribed) work like the new curved wall: You enter these
walls as you would enter a 2D circle based on two points and the
radius.
Entity-based wall
An Entity-Based Wall can be based on 2D elements only. While
you are entering the wall, you can check it in the preview. The wall
axis follows the selected element.
Spline-based wall
Entering a Spline-Based Wall works just like entering a
2D Spline. The input options appear immediately after you
have selected this tool and not after you have placed the first point.
To define connections, you can select Use starting point for

connection and Use end point for connection in the input
options. The tools for polygonizing elements are still available; the
same applies to Number of segments and Rise.
As soon as you click the first point, you can see the preview
complete with all construction layers and surface elements.
New tool: delete outline of roof surface

If you want to remove an outline from a roof surface that consists of
multiple outlines, you can use the Delete Outline of Roof Surface
tool. You can find this tool on the toolbar of direct object
modification. Select the roof outline that you want to delete and
point to an edge of the outline. By clicking the Delete Outline of
Roof Surface tool, you delete this outline; the other outlines do not
change. Select the Esc key to close the tool.
If the roof surface consists of only one outline, the Delete Outline
of Roof Surface tool is not available. To delete the roof surface, use
the Delete tool (shortcut menu of the roof surface or Edit task
area).

Expanding existing roof surfaces

The shortcut menu of a roof surface contains the Reshape
Surface Element, Architectural Area tool. You can use this tool to
change the outline of an existing roof surface by adding a new
outline. In doing so, you can use the Properties palette to change the
parameters taken from the existing roof surface, such as the height.
This works like creating a new roof surface. After you have defined
the polyline, you can adjust the edges. The new outline is part of the
modified roof surface.
You can find the Reshape Surface Element, Architectural Area

tool in the Change task area, too.
Recesses and openings in slabs

When you edited openings and recesses in slabs (by double-clicking
the opening), earlier versions always recomputed the slabs in their
entirety, even if you changed only 2D elements, such as smart
symbols, and the new computation was not necessary. This could
take some time, especially with complex slabs.
Allplan 2021 differentiates between 2D elements and 3D elements,
recomputing the slabs only when this is necessary. Consequently,
adjoining components need not be recomputed either.
Segments in circle for round openings in

slabs
When you use the Recess, Opening in Slab tool to create a round
opening, you can now define the Segments in circle by entering a
number between 20 and 40; 20 is the default setting.
Structural framing

reinforcing bars. For example, this is useful for inserting
or moving openings or for considering concreting
sections.
In addition, the functionality for placing reinforcement
along one and more paths has been optimized: You can
now define negative concrete covers, negative
projections, and offsets to the starting and end edges of
the placing regions. So, you can control the arrangement
of reinforcement in challenging situations even more
precisely.
You can now apply the “Fold Line” tool to area
reinforcement and placements in polygon. By means of
the clipboard or library, you can efficiently reuse
complete reinforcement layouts. And when rearranging
marks, you can now work with tolerances. This combines
similar bending shapes and enhances the clarity of steel
lists and construction-site logistics.

New tool: move linked

Move Linked moves (reinforcement) views and sections and their
model data to, for example, the next floor. This changes neither the
position relative to each other nor the reinforcement labels.
Due to the algorithm of Move Linked, the position of views and
sections relative to the linked model data does not change even if
you use symbols or the clipboard.
Two new tools: split bars and join bars

You can use the new Split Bars and Join Bars tools to edit any
number of placements in a single operation.
When splitting bars, you can create an overlap, a joint, or an opening
along the defined division. You can define the length and position of
the overlap or opening. To enter the division, you can select a
polygonal dividing line or an opening. As an alternative, you can
match a 2D element.
When joining bars, you can define whether you want to combine only
geometrically identical placements, which can be projected exactly
on top of one another, or also placements with different bar lengths,
whose projections are completely within the maximum bar length of
the selected placements.

You can join bars only when all spacings are identical.
Initially, Allplan geometrically joins the placements that are
perpendicular to the placing lines according to the following criteria.
• The segments to be joined are in alignment; the tolerance is the
diameter.
• The segments have the same placing vector.
• Neither hooks nor couplers are at the bar ends to be joined.
• The bending shape is not a closed geometry.
After this, Allplan sequentially joins the placements that are in the
direction of the placing lines according to the following criteria,
considering the setting in the Join Bars dialog box.
• The placing lines must be parallel and within the same projection.
• The distance between the placements is a multiple of the spacing;
the tolerance is the diameter.
• Hooks and couplers must be identical at the bar ends.
Importing reinforcement
Allplan 2021 no longer provides the Import Reinforcement tool in
the Import task area. You could use this tool to import reinforcement
drawings created with the FRILO software programs for continuous
beams, foundations, and reinforced concrete columns. Instead, use
the Import IFC Data tool.

IFC interface
In IFC files, components are often described as boundary
representation (BRep). Dur to this fact and certain opening shapes,
components are often interpreted as general 3D bodies. This leads to
restrictions in further processing and evaluations.
Allplan 2021 extends the analysis of BRep geometries and openings
during IFC import. As a result, you can create a greater number of
native Allplan components with or without openings, such as walls,
ceilings, and columns. This significantly enhances the quality of the
imported IFC models.
When exporting IFC data, you can choose to export objects as
extrusion models as usual – optionally with support for free
geometry (NURBS) – or as BRep geometries.
IFC export of reinforcement

IFC export of reinforcement transfers additional quantities. The
AllplanQuantities PSet now includes BarLength, BarLengthTotal,
BarWeightTotal, and BarDistance.
IFC export of axis grids

IFC export transfers three-dimensional axis grids with planes in the
z-direction as three-dimensional elements to IFC if these axis grids
were created by means of Axis Grid (Grid and Structural
Framing Objects task areas).

More flexibility for transferring geometries

You can define which geometric model will be used for IFC export in
the Geometry conversion to IFC area of the IFC Export, Import
Settings.
• Select the Extruded geometry / BREP geometry option to
transfer 3D models as extrusion models or surface models as
usual. The familiar Support for freeform geometry option can
now be found here. Select this option to transfer NURBS
freeform geometry as complex models. Otherwise, NURBS
freeform geometry will be transferred as polygons.
• Select the BREP geometry option to transfer 3D models as BRep
models (surface models).
Freeform geometry for IFC import

You can define the quality of freeform geometric objects for IFC
import in the IFC Export, Import Settings. To do this, select the
Activate enhanced representation of freeform geometric objects
option. Use Number of U-curves and Number of V-curves
(isocurves) to define the shape and precision of the representation.
IFC import is better and faster

IFC Import comes with enhanced functionality for analyzing BRep
models (surface models). Import is faster, and assignment to Allplan
objects is better.

New option: import 3D elements as BRep
Since Allplan 2018 simple 3D elements in AutoCAD data have been
imported as grouped surfaces. However, you cannot use this
geometry as, for example, formwork for reinforcement in Allplan.
To import AutoCAD data, you can use the new Import 3D elements
as BRep option (in Settings - AutoCAD specific - Miscellaneous
area): When you select this option, Allplan imports all solids as
surface models (BRep). When this option is not selected, Allplan
imports all solids as solids.
New option: parameters for import of freeform geometry

Allplan usually displays freeform geometric objects with curves or
general 3D elements (BRep models) by using four U-curves and V-
curves (isocurves) each. When you import complex models with
many details, this might lead to performance problems. Isocurves are
usually not necessary.
To import AutoCAD data, you can use the new Parameters for
import of freeform geometry option (in Settings - Allplan 2021
specific area).
Enter the Number of U-curves and Number of V-curves of

freeform geometric objects (isocurves), thus defining the shape and
precision of the representation. Import without isocurves is the
default setting.
Extended selection for UTM coordinate transformation

When you import AutoCAD data (dxf, dwg), UTM coordinate
transformation provides the Extended selection option.
You can select any NTv2 files and define the source system and
destination system for coordinate transformation. Thus, you can use
coordinate transformation for countries other than the ones that are
available in the Standard selection (Germany, Austria, Switzerland).
Note: The Extended selection option should be used only by users

with in-depth knowledge of geodesy or surveying.
Note: An NTv2 file (GSB) defines only the ellipsoid transformation

based on latitude and longitude (Lat/Lon). To work with the standard
coordinate systems, you must define zones and projection for the
source system and the destination system. The ellipsoid parameters
will be taken from the NTv2 file.

speeds up the creation of scripts. You can now use visual
scripting to control the shapes, dimensions, positions, and
materials of structural framing objects.

• Enhanced workspace: You can place nodes wherever you want.
You can use the zoom tools to, for example, zoom in on the active
node.
• Enhanced visual feedback for intermediate steps: The preview
