KEY BOOK(S)
ACTS
We shall refer to when other books
were written as we travel through
the latter chapters of Acts
Acts 1:1-2, In my first book I told you,
Theophilus, about everything Jesus
began to do and teach until the day
he was taken up to heaven after
giving his chosen apostles further
instructions through the Holy Spirit.
my first book…Acts was written
by Luke as a follow on to the
Gospel of Luke.
Theophilus = “loved by God,
lover of God” — becomes “friend
of God.”
Possibly a specific person.
“most honorable Theophilus,”
A person of honour or rank, such
as a Roman official (Acts 23:26;
Acts 24:2; Acts 26:25).
- A wealthy/influential man in Antioch.
- Jewish high priest Theophilus ben
Ananus. High priest A.D. 37-41, son of
Annas and the brother–in-law of
Caiaphas.
- The Roman lawyer who defended
Paul during his trial in Rome. Luke-Acts
is then seen as a defence of Christianity.
