Final Thoughts
Kindle Domination

Introduction

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Thomas

Utt. I am 28 years old and have 2 wonderful boys, age 5
and 3. I have been involved in internet marketing since I
was 17 years old. Eleven years, man, time goes by fast.

I am currently involved in Kindle publishing, CPA, Clickbank,

and a few other things, but the majority of my income comes
from the above mentioned sources. To tell you the truth, I
wasn’t one of the first to jump on the Kindle band wagon. I
wish I was, but unfortunately I wasn’t.

I got started in Kindle publishing about a year ago. I have

grown my Kindle income to a such a degree, that even if
every other source of income I have were to stop today, I
would still be fine. I would make a sufficient amount of
money from Kindle books alone to provide for my family,
with enough left over to take a few nice vacations each year.
In fact, if I wanted to, I could completely stop publishing on
Kindle and the money would keep coming in. You see,
Kindle publishing is a recurring income. It's not dependent on
you publishing new content every day.

This is what makes Kindle so appealing, and probably one of

the BEST ways to produce an income online today. So turn
off your tv, grab a beverage, and enjoy what I have to share
with you today.

Getting content

Content is the most important part of creating a Kindle book.

After all, without content, you don't have a book. I am going
to go over two different ways of getting content. This way I'll
cover something that will appeal to you whether you are a
Kindle newbie or a seasoned publisher.

The first thing I will cover is more for newbies. It will get you
to “published author” status faster and easier than any other
way I know. No, its not PLR if that’s what you're thinking.
What we are going to do is create a short fiction book. Now,
most people will tell you to start by creating a recipe book.
But I’m not going to suggest that.

The first thing you have to do is research, so head over to

the Kindle store's best sellers in fiction, and click on any
category under fiction.
Kindle Domination

It really doesn’t matter which category that you decide to

focus on. I’ve done books in action & adventure, horror,
fantasy, erotica, drama, mystery and thrillers. And most all
have sold well. Once you figure out which category you want
to go with, I want you then to go through the top 100 best
sellers in that category, and take note of the following on the
books you like.

The Cover Design they used, including the text, the image,
and the authors name. Read the reviews and pay attention
to what the reviews are saying. This will help you create
better content, and it will also help you write a better
description for your book. Next, write down any tags that
customers have left (sometimes there won't be any, while
other times some books will have tags that you might decide
to use for your keywords). That's it for RESEARCH at this
stage because this is about getting a book published and
nothing more.

The next thing you need to do is click on “look inside”.

Kindle Domination

Then you can read the first few pages or chapters of the
book, and see if it's something you would be interested in. If
it is, then you should buy it. It's only a couple bucks, folks,
so pony up and get the book. You will be thanking me after
your book goes live. Take your time, and read the book
(more than once if you need to) in order to get a feel for the
characters.

Now, what we're going to do is take this book, and rewrite it

into our own story. Use it for ideas and reference, but DO
NOT blatantly copy the book word for word. We are creating
our own version of the story, that is most likely shorter since
we don’t need to write a 30,000+ word book for this. We can
add a character or remove a character (make sure to change
the names slightly). We will also add our own twist to the
story and make it unique. Keep in mind that we're not going
after writing a best seller. Our goal is getting a book
published, and then making some money from it.

As far as length goes, as stated earlier, we don’t have to

write a huge book. It only needs to be long enough to tell
your story. As long as your story gets told, customers will be
happy, whether it's 5 pages or 50 pages. They just want an
entertaining story. I try to keep my books around 5,000+
words. This might sound like a lot. But if you think about it,
it's only 10 articles. Most people can write 10 articles in half
a day (or a day at most). So length isn’t the most important
thing. It's an entertaining story that people want.
Kindle Domination

So, what I want you to do now is to go do your research, and

pick out a book. Then take action on creating your own story
out of it.

If you have money to invest, you may rather purchase a

novel to publish. You can skip this previous method, and go
with the one I will talk about below.

This is where the real money is

If you have more money than time, or if you are already a

Kindle publisher, then this might be the best method for you.
There are THOUSANDS of writers out there that write books,
(very good books) and never do anything with them. The
books just sit on their computer, collecting virtual dust.
That's a golden opportunity for us. Put yourself in their
shoes.

If you had a book that you wrote a couple of years ago and
have never done anything with it (you may have just wrote it
for the love of writing), and someone came along and offered
you some cash for the rights to this book that would have
otherwise just sit on your computer and made you nothing,
wouldn’t you take the cash?

There is a community of writers that post their work within

the community for the other members to enjoy. This
community is fictionpress.com and is where the majority of
my books come from.
Kindle Domination

So head over to fictionpress and select a category of interest

below the “fiction” section.

For instance, let's click on “horror.” A bunch of book titles

appear, but we can customize the search with the drop down
menu at the top.
Kindle Domination

So in the example above, we chose supernatural as a sub-

genre. We chose “all” for a book rating (you might want to
stick to k-t, unless your going with erotica). We chose
20,000+ for the word count and complete for the book
status.

This is just an example to show you how to navigate the site.

If you already know what type of book you want, then you
can use the search function at the top right of the site. Type
in a keyword like “fairy” or “vampire” and hit “enter”, and it
will turn up books that match your search.

Go through the stories. Pick out 10 to 15 that you like, and

then message the author. Offer them $200 or so for the
rights to their book. In my experience, I will usually have 2-4
people willing to make a deal, out of every 10-15 that I
contact. Some times they will counter offer. If I offered
$200 and really liked the book, and they came back at $300,
I might offer $250, but would pay the $300 if I had to.

Remember, once you get the rights to the book, it's

completely yours. You are free to make any changes you
wish, and make sure to change the author's name to your
pen name.
Kindle Domination

Also, remember to save any messages between you and the

author, in case you ever need to prove that the book rights
belong to you.

Fictionpress isn’t the only place to pick up these awesome

books. I have a couple more tricks up my sleeve. Believe it
or not, Craigslist is a good place to find authors. Just post an
ad in several large cities across the US, and people WILL
respond. Here is an example ad.

Looking to buy rights to your finished novel or book

Will pay $150-$250, depending on length and quality

Please contact me with the following information:

1. The genre of your book

2. The word count
3. A sample chapter
4. A short summery

Receive instant payment if I chose to purchase the book.

Here is another way I’ve gotten some GOOD QUALITY

novels.
I made up some fliers that were similar to the Craigslist ad
above, and took them to the local colleges and posted them
on billboards (most colleges allow the public to do this).
Over the next few days, you should get loads of emails from
students who have written very nice stories and need some
extra cash.

Cover Creation

Believe it or not, one of the things I have found fiverr.com

useful for is cover creation for my books. I have tried
several different providers on there, and most have done an
awesome job. For 5 bucks, it's worth it because I don’t have
to fool around with it. Just go to fiverr, and search for
“Kindle cover”, you will have a bunch of providers to choose
from. Be sure to pick one with good feedback. THIS GUY is
good. I have used him several times.

You might think it would be more complicated than that, to

get an amazing book cover. But it's not. It's one of the easier
parts of the process.
Kindle Domination

Formatting

Some people think that formatting for the Kindle is hard. But
it's pretty easy. If your book is in a Word doc and doesn’t
have a lot of special formatting, your book will probably look
good on the Kindle.

Here are some basic formatting facts that I found for you.

Which Font Should I Use?

Kindle uses its own font that isn’t available for the PC. So the
fonts you use won’t show up on the Kindle. Kindle readers
will only see the default Kindle font. That means you don’t
have to worry about what font to use, because it’s going to
change to the Kindle font anyway. Keep it simple with Times
New Roman.

What Size Should My Font Be?

Kindle readers are able to choose how large or small the text
is on their Kindle, so your font size doesn’t matter. 11 point
font is standard in print books, and is the size most people
are comfortable reading.

How Do I Insert Pictures?

In Word, click on “Insert” and click on “Picture.” Don’t try to

do anything else with the picture, like adding shadows or
text wrapping, because it can cause strange formatting
problems on the Kindle.

Kindle Domination

Should I Start Each New Chapter On A New Page?

No. Books look best on Kindle when they’re long and flowing.
To start a new chapter, just write “Chapter 2 – Chapter 2
Title” and bold it. When it comes to the Kindle, the simpler,
the better.

Is It Okay To Use Bullet Points?

Unfortunately, no. They often lose their alignment when

uploaded to the Kindle, and go all over the place, making a
big mess. Using asterisks (*) is an easy alternative.

Should I Use Page Numbers, Headers, or Footers?

No. They won’t convert properly on the Kindle.

Creating a Clickable Table of Contents In Less Than 1

Minute

Most readers sincerely appreciate any type of TOC included

with a book, and some will write negative reviews if they
don’t get it. Adding one will increase your sales, and repeat
customers, while reducing refunds. Creating a clickable table
of contents in Word couldn’t be easier.
Kindle Domination

Just go to References – Table of Contents

Choose Automatic Table 1 or Automatic Table 2.

And a table of contents will pop up.

Once your done, make sure you “Save As” in the “format
Web Filtered” as shown below.
Kindle Domination

NOTE: When you view your book on Kindle’s preview display,

your links won’t be clickable. The preview on the KDP
website never has clickable links, so don’t freak out. When
your book is live on the Kindle, you’ll then be able to click on
the links. That’s pretty much it as far as formatting goes.

Uploading

Uploading your book to Kindle is pretty easy, and

straight forward.

Go to https://kdp.amazon.com/self-publishing/signin

Create an account or sign in with your already existing

Amazon account.
Kindle Domination

Then click: Add a new title.

Enter your book details, upload your Kindle book, your cover,
description, and set the price.

I recommend starting your price at $2.99. At $0.99, you’re

not making much on each sale.

When you’re done filling out all your book details, hit
SUBMIT! Your book will be live on Amazon within 1-2
days.

Also, here is a link to a youtube video that does a good job

at explaining how to upload your book.

Marketing

Marketing your Kindle book is a large part of making it

successful. To do this, we are going to contact bloggers.

Here’s whats so great about this method. Because you’re

selling fiction instead of non-fiction, you can get dozens of
reviews for free. This will create a crazy traffic surge. This
works a lot better than tagging tricks, fiverr tricks, fake
reviews, or any other trendy, sneaky tricks coming out lately.
Plus, it won’t cost you a cent.

This is the same method Amanda Hocking used to create her

bestseller status. Save another copy of your Kindle document
as a PDF. Find the blogger lists included in this WSO
package, and then find the list for your book’s category.
Email every blogger on the list, with information about your
book BEFORE it’s even live on Amazon. It’s more exciting to
review a book before anyone else has access to it. Just say
something like.

Hey “bloggers name”,

My name is “your name”, and I was wondering if you’d be

interested in receiving a review copy of my new book, “your
books title.” It is a story about “what your book is about”
The genre is fiction and the word count is “how ever long
your book is”. Thanks a lot for all you do and taking the time
to read my email. I hope to hear from you soon.
Kindle Domination

If the blogger agrees to review your book, email it to them

immediately, along with a thank you. It normally takes
bloggers a few days to review your book. They’ll send you
an email before they publish the review to their blog asking
for your Amazon link.

This will cause a crazy traffic frenzy, but it really only works
with fiction. If you get several bloggers to post reviews, and
links to your book, it can generate HUNDREDS of sales. This
will get your book noticed, and will increase your Amazon
rank and result in even more sales.

Also, when you upload your book to Amazon, make sure to

agree to enroll it in the KDP select program. This lets you
have 5 free promotional days out of every 90, in which you
let people download your book for free. Which REALLY
creates a buzz around your book, if it's any good at all.

If you follow the above advice, then your book is sure to be a

success. Am I saying that it will be a best seller? NO. I'm not
saying that, but it will make you an autopilot income for a
long time to come.

It took me about 10 books, before I got to an income level

that I would consider full-time. If you just complete one
book every 2 weeks, then you could be to that level in 5
months or sooner.

Final thoughts and Taking Action

Now that you have read through this whole guide, (You did
read it ALL, didn’t you?) you have the knowledge you need to
get started in the Kindle publishing game. The only thing
that is stopping you now is YOU! It's time for you to turn off
your tv, get a cup of coffee (or soda), and GET TO WORK.

If you take nothing else from this guide, then take this.
Action is your KEY to success. If you don’t take action, you
WON'T succeed, and that’s that. It's up to you really. You
can let this guide sit on your hard drive, and do nothing with
it, or you can take it, and start your new future.

With that, I wish you the best of luck in achieving your online
dreams.

To Your Success,
