ABSTRACT

Knowledge of reservoir characterization in terms of geometry, body, and the physical aspect is an important
indicator in developing the prospect of oil and gas field. This research using the spectral decomposition and
RMS amplitude seismic attributes on Penobscot basin field data, Canada, using well data and 3D seismic data.
Well data used are well data B-40 and L-31 which are connected with the composite function. The software
used is Petrel 2008.1. The target zone in this study is located in the Lower Dawson Canyon formation.
Processing data horizon selection which is then continued to make a structure map that is a time-domain
structure and depth domain structure. Then the attribute analysis is performed using the seismic RMS amplitude
attribute to get a value between 0.4-1 meters. After that, the spectral decomposition attribute is performed using
frequencies 10, 25, 50, and 75 Hz to get the spectral cross-section with color blending analysis. The application
of spectral decomposition and amplitude RMS attribute for a reservoir identification in the Penobscot field is
effective because it is found that the potential for hydrocarbon zones is at depths of 2000 - 3000 feet, but with
small amounts due to the formation of layers that are not too deep and the target zone in between 0.4 - 1 meters
only is a small point.
