of hand sanitizer, and ask them to find their seats.
- Let them know that the instructions for the bell work are up on

- Welcome! Please get out your Mercantilism Notes and
Questions from last class.
- Complete your notes with the information on the board.
- Use this information to answer the last two questions on your
Mercantilism Questions Sheet

Rotate around the classroom, ensuring students get started on their


work right away. Give students ten minutes to copy the information
down and answer the questions.

Review the last bit of notes with students. Have them do a vote of
which country they thought would be the most successful.

After students are done sharing, go around the classroom with the

- As we go through the notes, you will need to fill in the pieces of
information that are missing.

25 mins Hand out the Capitalism Notes and go through the Capitalism
Powerpoint. Have students follow along and fill in information as
necessary. Go through the values of capitalism, the rise of capitalism,
Adam Smith, the rise of capitalism, and alternative economic systems.
End off with the capitalism vs. communism chart.

Say to students:
- Lots of opinions around the world exist on what the best
economic system is.
- Today we are going to have a mini-debate on this topic.

- To start off, you are going to work with a partner.


- I am going to assign you either the topic of capitalism or
communism. Whichever topic you are assigned, is the topic that
you have to argue for.
- With your partner, you are going to use the Capitalism Debate
Sheet to prepare your arguments for debate. You are going to
have fifteen minutes to prepare.
- Then, you and your partner are going to debate two other
students (partners) who have been given the opposite economic
system.
- After you debate, we will have the opportunity to share your Class debate - a
