SUPPORT TIME

EXPECTATION
S
Building the Homework Habit
Why?
• Collecting homework helps me gather evidence of what you have learned and use
that evidence to decide what to do next

• Ability is NOT fixed – every time you engage in critical thinking or use what you
have learned and apply it to something else, you are improving your ability to think
– the more you work at this and challenge yourself, the more successful you will be

• Spending too much time in front of a screen (cell phones, social media, etc.) has
been found to be linked to increased anxiety in young people

• I will not teach during support time
My Commitment to
• I will not do test review or extend my
You lesson
• Those 27 minutes will be yours, every
day
• I will give you 2 minutes at the
beginning of support time to stretch
and have a cell phone break
Support Time Support time will be time to do homework, read,
Expectations or something else academic

No cellphones allowed

You can listen to music, but you must be working

You will work for the complete 25 minutes – you

will not pack up five minutes early and wait for
the bell to dismiss you
Time Spent on Homework

I will provide you with time

expectations for homework –
This will usually be 25
how long I expect you to
minutes per day, although
spend on this homework
there may be some exceptions
(whether in support time or at
home)

If you aren’t done your

This is time that you sit and homework after that amount of
focus on your homework time, I just want you to hand in
what you do have completed
• Hand in all of my homework for the next unit in Social
Goal Setting Studies
• Get caught up on the assignment(s) that I am missing
Examples • Start reading the book I have wanted to start reading
and will do my homework at home
• Review the concepts presented in class and ask any
questions I might have
• Study for upcoming quizzes and tests in social studies
What will this do
for me?
You are learning two very
important habits:

1. How to set a goal and work to

achieve it.
2. How to spend time every day
(outside of class) working to
improve your learning.
Reminders
• You ARE capable of doing the work
• You have already grown and learned so much in the time we have been together
• Learning is an ongoing practice
• If you’re stuck, or you aren’t sure, take advantage of this “support” time – and ask
for support from your teachers
