Assignment #2

A. Fill-in and sign the Plagiarism Awareness Contract (see other template)

B. Answer with a Yes or No if you think you need to document each example below. If you do need to
cite and reference your work, how should you do it? If you do not, why not?

1. As part of your research you are writing about your own experiences.

No, since the information belongs to me and I am not taking it out of any source.

2. You borrow some information from a source, but you are not using any quotations.

Yes, at the end of the information used I would put a number and a footnote specifying which
source the information came from.

3. You have a source that says it just right. You use the original source, verbatim.

Yes, since it is a textual quotation and am using exactly the words that are used in the book, I
would put it in quotes and a number at the end of them. I would also specify properly at the end
of the page the source from which that information comes.

4. Your teacher said something to you last week and it has stuck in your head ever since. You
see a way to work it into your research.

Yes. I would mention somehow him/her and if the words I wrote were textual from that person I
would put their words in quotes.

5. You discover a really good quotation that you would like to use, but it is way too long, so you
leave some of it out.

Yes. I would put it in quotes and a number at the end of them. I would also specify properly at
the end of the page the source from which that information comes.
The omitted information would be marked with these symbols [...].

6. Someone made up a really good phrase that captures just what you want to say. So, you use
it.

Yes. I would mention who said those words and put them in quotes.
