experience, it has the vision to foster human development through excellence in quality education,
research & entrepreneurial development. It is certified ISO 9001:2008 for quality management by
TÜV Rheinland and it is a member of Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP).
There are over 100 innovative programmes at the UG, PG, and research levels, and erudite faculty
members who mentor 9600 students nationally & globally. It enjoys close to 20 international
collaborations with the world's leading universities and organizations in the UK, Germany, Russia,
the US, Canada, etc.
Established in the year 2007, iNurture is the pioneer in career-ready formal higher education in India.
iNurture delivers industry relevant, full-time courses at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels
in the fast growing sectors of economy; in active association with well-reputed Universities,
Autonomous Institutions and Colleges. iNurture operates through a unique collaborative University-
Industry Partnership (UIP) model, ensuring qualifying degrees along with cutting edge knowledge
and skills. iNurture currently has partnership with over 20 Universities, Autonomous Institutions
and Colleges across India.
The Commerce Department has defined growth by adding new parameters in education of
commerce. The constant innovative ideas nurtured in its various spheres of functioning – teaching,
extra-curricular, co-curricular, student centric ideology, continuous FDPs, National
conferences, etc. – have added new feathers to its cap from time to time. The Department houses
over 5,000 students at UG and PG levels and it is an abode to over 70 faculty members contributing
towards its daily work and growth.
Demographics do not determine the fate of economic growth, but they are certainly a key determinant
for an economy's growth potential. An aging population coupled with a declining birth rate in the
developed world points to a decline in future economic growth. Increase in productivity can lessen
the impact of such population shifts and technological advances are the ideal source of productivity
boosts. This, however, is a double-edged sword: On one hand, technological progress increases
productivity, but at the same time it can eliminate jobs outright, increasing unemployment. As the age
make-up of the workforce changes in the future, so will the make-up of the kinds of jobs the economy
employs.
In this context, India is seemingly at an advantage with a young population (50% under the age of
25 years; 65% under the age of 35 years) with a large section of the undergraduates speaking
English and a significant number having engineering and professional degrees. But, the country
is also captive to several disadvantages: huge population of 1.2 billion, stark poverty levels, urban-
rural divide, uneven economic growth, under- and – disguised employment, entrepreneurship
driven more from a lack of employment opportunity than choice, 90% informal employment, 50%
of agricultural employment producing only 13% of our GDP, slow pace of reforms attributed to our
democratic set up, et al.
The hard question facing India and the world is: Will the disadvantages overweigh the advantages?
Will India’s young and large population contribute to its Demographic Dividend or its Demographic
Disaster? What are the policy initiatives and decisions that will provide the positive tilt? What
implications does India’s Demographic situation hold for the underdeveloped, emerging and
developed world? Is exporting young Indian manpower trained in specific areas a solution to
address deficit in human resources in other countries? What are its implications? What are the myriad
opportunities and mitigations that need to be addressed to deliver a dividend?
This International Conference aims to provide a platform for deliberation on exactly such
issues to answer the million dollar question: Demographics - Dividend or Disaster?
CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES:
To provide a platform for policy makers, academicians, research scholars and industry
practitioners, to deliberate on the dynamics of demographics and its impact at the social,
economic and political level for India and globally
To uncover the challenges and potential solutions to effectively address this gigantic issue
that has significant implication for India and to an inter related world
This is not an exhaustive list and papers are welcome in other related areas as well. Please
indicate in your abstract to which sub-theme you would like to contribute. The Conference
Committee reserves the right to arrange the track allocation depending on the popularity of each
theme.
