TRAINING FOR LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT

Day 1:

The ASKI Skills and Knowledge Institute, Inc. have a lot of opportunities given to its
students. One of these days, ASKI engaged with building Students Association/ Cooperative. Luckily,
“Agripreneurship” is funded by the Australian Government through the Direct Aid Program (DAP)
administered by the Australian Embassy in the Philippines. The proposed project was, “Promoting
Sustainable Agriculture and Agripreneurship among the youth from Marginalized Farming
Communities in Talavera, Nueva Ecija”.

The first day of the Training for Leadership and Organizational Management was held at
Talavera Agricultural and Social Enterprise Training Center (TASEC) last August 22, 2019. The
participants of the activity were the elected Board of Directors, Secretary, Treasurer and
Coordinators. Of course the training would not be completed without the speaker, Ms. Rosalie D.
Dela Cruz, General Manager of ASKI Employee Credit Cooperative (AECC).

It started with an opening prayer led by Richter Esteban. The first part of the training was
the topic BASIC COOPERATIVE COURSE. It covers the fundamental knowledge of cooperative that
all coop officers should have. She explained first the history of cooperative, for it is to be clearer, she
showed a video of history of cooperative to her participants. The Cooperative started in 1800 due to
poverty and crisis. It was first established in England, the first cooperative is Rochdale Equitable
Pioneer Society. In Philippines, Dr. Jose Rizal was the first person who introduced the cooperative.

Next, she proceeds to the Cooperative Values and Principles. There are ten cooperative
values but she only emphasized the four: Self- Help; Democracy; Equality; and Solidarity. While the
Cooperative Principles are: Open and Voluntary Membership; Democratic Member Control;
Member Economic Participation; Autonomy and Independence; Education, Training and
Information; Cooperation among Cooperatives; and Concern for Community. The last part before
the topic Basic Cooperative Course end, she explained the rights and responsibilities of every
member of the cooperative.

Ms. Rosalie second topic was Laboratory Cooperative. It is the students or people who are
not lower of 7 years old but below 18 years old (Minors), guided by their Guardian Cooperative. In
this field, there is no capitalization required. She explained all of the articles inside the Republic Act
9520, the law for Cooperative. She first tackled the purposes of Laboratory Cooperative. The
highlight of its purpose was to enhance the skills of the minors so that they already prepared when
they join Cooperative once they turned 18 years old. Her memorable line was, “Never let one peso

or any amount of money destroy your dignity and the trust of people around you.” She always said
that if the students already managing their association, all the transactions shall be transparent.
Service first, before profit. Last, the Functions, Responsibilities and Training Requirements of Board
of Directors, Officers and Committee Members. She said to her participants to know their part. She
explained all the functions and responsibilities of each position. Come after that, she also showed
the Required Reports of the Laboratory Cooperative: Cooperative Annual Performance Report
(CAPR); Social Audit including the program of activities in pursuance of its socio-civic undertakings
showing its achievements at the end of fiscal year; Performance Report; Audited Financial
Statement duly stamped “received” by the BIR; and List of Officers and Trainings Undertaken/
Completed. She said that if the cooperative failed to pass all the reports at the given deadline, there
will be a penalty worth 100 pesos per report and day of late.

That’s all for the 1st day of the training, overall, the officers surely imparted all the lessons
they learned and ready to apply it in the future. She always reminds the students that, “Huwag na
huwag kang magpapakasira sa kahit anong halaga ng pera, kahit na piso pa man ‘yan.” It ended by a
closing prayer, led by Rowena Rauza.

Day 2:

Unlike the first day, the second day was short because she only had one module to discuss.
The second day started with an opening prayer led by Jolly Jane Java, followed by some ice breaker.
Ms. Rosalie started her module Leadership Values and Re-Orientation. It covers the knowledge,
skills and attitudes that the offices should have. She discussed the General Law and its elements: Is
truly Humble- Lead to Serve; Is non-judgementally observant; Faces and Solve Problems; Ruthlessly
Improve; Is Fiscally Conservative; Invests in the business; Communicate Regularly, Clearly and
Purposefully; Gives Clear Direction; Evolves Aggressively; Has a sense of humor; and Is Customer
Centric.

Come after was the elements of effective leadership. First, let employees know what’s
expected. Second, let employees know where they stand. Third, establish a sound communication
network. Fourth, establish a positive work climate. Lastly, be an effective delegator. She said, “Hindi
ka uunlad as a person kung hindi mo is-share ‘yung mga nalalaman mo. If you’re a good and effective
leader, dapat ‘yung mga members mo may matutunan sa’yo para kapag umalis ka, may
magpapatuloy kung ano man yung nasimulan mo.”

The last was part her favorite ending, to give her students a memorable quote, “Let your
YES be YES and NO be NO.” The training was ended with a closing prayer led by Ms. Rosalie Dela
Cruz. Then come after was the giving of certificate of being the resource speaker of the 2- days

training and seminar to Ms. Rosalie Dizon Dela Cruz. Also, the participants received their
certificates of participation.

The two days training for leadership and organizational management ended very well. The
students surely gained a lot of lessons brought by Ms. Rosalie. Looking forward for more trainings
for the students officers to be readily managed the cooperative.
