- Quick drying time

- Robust final finish that adheres strongly to the model's polystyrene surface

- Lacquer Thinner Retarder Type (87194) slows initial 'flash off' time, allowing paint droplets to
merge on the model's surface for a smoother finish

- Once dry, can be safely over-painted with acrylics, enamels and other model paints

- Weathering techniques such as colour-washes and dry brushing can be applied over the dried
Lacquer Paint

REVIEW
Marcus Nicholls, Editor, Tamiya Model Magazine

I used Tamiya Lacquer Paints for the first time on Tamiya's fabulous 1:35 Type 16 MCV
armoured car kit. I wanted to try the new materials to gain first-hand experience and I was
extremely impressed. During airbrushing, the paints behave in a similar manner to the 'XF'
Acrylic range, quickly building up into an opaque layer of colour on the model's surface.

I thinned them to about the same ratio as I would with Tamiya's Acrylics, approximately 60%
paint to 40% thinner, although other users may prefer different mixes. For my test, I used
Tamiya's Lacquer Thinner Retarder Type (87194). This solvent slightly slows the rate at which
the paint dries, allowing the freshly-sprayed paint to settle on the model's surface, creating a
super-smooth, continuous film of colour.

Once fully dry (quicker than the Acrylic paints), the Lacquer Paint formed a flawless,
impressively tough finish that adhered with a limpet-like grip on the plastic of the model.

If you are familiar with Tamiya's Acrylics, you'll feel at home with this new line, which
combines the same ease of use with an extra robustness.

Lacquer Thinner / Retarder 250ml

This new product not only thins lacquer paints for

airbrushing, it also includes retardant to slow the drying
of the thinned paint, particularly useful in covering up any
overspray and getting a glossy finish.

• Can be used to thin Tamiya Color Lacquer Paints and

Spray Paints, in a ratio of between 1:1 and 2:1
(thinner:paint).
• Retarder slows drying, particularly useful in cases such
as that shown overleaf, when undesired overspray can

ruin a glossy paint job if it dries before you can get to it.
Lacquer Thinner 250ml • Helps to avoid blushing (when moisture gets trapped
with paint and you end up with a foggy white finish) in
humid conditions.
• Contents: 250ml.
