NARRATIVE TEXT

Instruction.
Read the Cekur Tree text carefully. Identify the social function, generic structure
and language features from the text.

TITLE “Cekur Tree”

SOCIAL FUNCTION Its function is to entertain readers or listeners
ORIENTATION Once upon a time in Sambas, there lived an old man
with his two sons, Bahlul
and Arif. He was sick and realized that his life was not
long. he gives the choice of wealth or knowledge to his
two children, one person can only choose and feel one.
COMPLICATION After the father died, Bahlul, the son who choose wealth
over knowledge, began applying all of the knowledge
that the father gave to Arif, but he was doing them
carelessly, so he slowly began losing his wealth and fell
into poverty.
Meanwhile, Arif, who got his father's knowledge about
planting curves and turmeric, began to think and was
moved to realize his father's knowledge.
Day after day, week after week, the years passed. Arif's
turmeric flourishes and the plant almost reaches the
sky. However, turmeric is still turmeric. No gold turmeric.
From that he sells the checks he gets and is successful
in getting a lot of money from consumers who buy. Arif
can buy gold bars and other items he wants. He had
realized the true meaning of his father's word.
The Cekur tree planted by Arif grew through the clouds
and reached heaven.
It looked interesting by an angel named Putri and was
curious about it then she followed the plant down to
earth, after until she was very surprised to find a
beautiful garden planted.

“My name is Arif, my lady. Who are you?” answered
Arif.
From that they often talked until they both realized that
they were in love. Putri stated that she was happy if she
could become Arif's wife, but Putri asked before
marriage that she wanted to make a luxurious house.
In the afternoon, Putri introduced Paddy to Arif, and she
was happy and worked hard to fulfill her wish to build a
luxurious house. The paddy that was given by Putri was
planted by Arif and distributed to his neighbors.
One day, the strongest god came down to earth and
was very surprised to see the many paddies planted by
Arif in his garden and the god returned to his palace
very angry. Nobody told Dewa even though they knew it
was the act of their youngest daughter, Putri. After the
god knew that the perpetrator's daughter was very
angry and said "You have made a big mistake, I will turn
you into."

RESOLUTION Arif fulfilled all the wishes of the princess with the rock

couple because of the generosity they had. Arif later
became the victorious king of the country
