The Little Red Chicken
Once upon a time there live a little red chicken in a big farm. His friends used to call him Red
Chicken because of his colour. He doesn’t lived there all alone. He lived with the lazy dog named
Doggie, a sleepy cat named Meowy and a noisy yellow duck named Queckky., Red Chicken spent
almost all of his time walking about the farm , scratching everywhere for worms. He dearly loved
fat, delicious worms and felt they were absolutely necessary for his health.
Meowy usually napped lazily in the barn door, not even bothering herself to scare the rat
who ran here and there as he pleased. And as for the Doggie who lived in his small dog house– he
did not care what happened so long as he could rest from the blazing sun outdoor and for the
Quecky, who at the pond, he never tired making a noise all days long.
One day the Red Chicken found a Wheat Seed. When he discovered that, he knew it ought to be
planted. He was so busy hunting food for himself and his family that, naturally, he thought not to
take time to plant it. So he thought of the Doggie dog- upon whom time must hang heavily and of
the Meowy, cat who had nothing to do, and of the Quecky who must be had enough time to help
him. So, he decided to asked all of them about that.
"Who will plant the Seed?"
Doggie said, "Not I," and \ Meowy said, "Not I," and Quecky said, "Not I."
"Well, then," said the Red Chicken, "I will."
And he did. Then he went on with his daily duties through the long summer days,
scratching for worms and feeding his family while the Doggie grew fat, and the Meowy grew fat,
and the Quecky grew fat, and the wheat grew tall and ready for harvest. So one day the Red
Chicken chanced to notice how large the wheat was and that the grain was ripe, so he ran about
calling briskly: "Who will cut the Wheat?"
Doggie said, "Not I," Meowy said, "Not I," and Quecky said, "Not I."
"Well, then," said the Red Chicken, "I will."
And he did. She got the sickle from among the farmer's tools in the barn and proceeded to
cut off all of the big plant of wheat. On the ground lay the nicely cut wheat, ready to be gathered
and threshed, but he was very tired. The wheat needed to be taken to the mill and ground into floor
So, again, in a very hopeful tone, he called out, "Who will grind the Wheat?"
But Doggie , with a grunt, said, "Not I," and Meowy, said, "Not I," and Quecky, said, "Not I."
So the Red Chicken said, "Well, I will, then."
And he did .Once he finished grind the wheat, he asked again for a help.
“Now, who is going to help me bake the bread?”
Once more his hopes were dashed as three of them came with a same answers as before. So
the Red Chicken said once more, "I will then," and he did. At last the great moment arrived. A
delicious aroma was wafted upon the autumn breeze. Everywhere the farm citizens sniffed the air
with delight. Then, probably because she had acquired the habit, the Red Hen called: "Who will eat
the Bread?"
All the animals in the farm were watching hungrily and licking their lips in anticipation, and
Doggie said, "I will," Mewoy said, "I will," Quecky said, "I will."

But the Red Chicken said, "No, you won't. I will." And she did. So, Red Chicken eat all the bread
by himself and enjoyed it completely.
