1. SCOPE
The purpose of this document is to check and confirm the piping thickness of Piping Material Classes not included in
NORSOK L-001 Ref [6] or any Piping Material Class which has been revised from NORSOK L-001 Ref [6] with
reduced thicknesses to be used on the HILD Platform Topside. The piping thickness of Piping Material Classes
which are in compliance with piping thicknesses of NORSOK L-001 Ref [6] are considered valid and are not checked
within this calculation note. (i.e. Piping classes AD20X, BD20X, DD20X, ED20X, FD20X, GD20X, DR20X; ER20X,
FR20X, AT75X, AD75X, FC11X). The thickness of the latter piping classes shall be further checked during detailed
engineering.

Consequently, this revision of the document applies to:

 The Piping Classes KD01X, KR20X and AR20X
 The Piping Special Items: the HP manifold and the 18” Flowline
 The Topside 24” gas export pipeline.

The calculation for topsides Rigid Flowlines (ie DD20P, AC11P) designed in accordance with DNV OS-F101 ref [12]
are not detailed in this document as the wall thicknesses are the same as the JACKET flowlines and the JACKET
design conditions encompass the topsides design conditions. Refer to document [3] - NO-HLD-20-KVE1-007176 -
Riser and riser support calculations.

Should the Topsides or Jacket / Surf design conditions be changed during detailed engineering, topsides pipeline
wall thickness shall be checked against the revised conditions.

This piping design check is performed against the ASME B31.3 Process piping Code Edition 2010 and PED
requirements Ref. [10]. The calculation for topsides pipelines is in accordance with DNV OS-F101 rev 2010 [12].

This document shall be read in conjunction with the project Piping and Valve Material Specification Ref. [1].

4. PIPE WALL THICKNESS CALCULATION PRINCIPLE

The calculation of pipe wall thickness values shall be in accordance with the ASME B 31.3 design code rev 2010,
and shall include a corrosion allowance as well as mill tolerances as applicable.

The weld efficiency coefficient of welded pipes shall be equal to 1.

4.1. Corrosion Allowance

Super-Duplex ,Inconel 625 and 6 Mo shall be used without extra-thickness for corrosion allowance.

4.2. Erosion Allowance

The erosion has been already considered in the line sizing so no erosion allowance shall be considered in the piping
wall thickness calculation. Furthermore, an erosion study has been performed in the wellbay area-refer to Sand
erosion study ref [5] for further details which conclude that no special precaution is required neither for duplex
stainless steel nor super duplex stainless.

4.3. Mill Tolerance

The Mill Tolerance shall depend on the fabrication process and shall be confirmed by the Manufacturer.
The hypotheses taken in the calculation are the following:

For Forged fabrication from bars:

-For nominal diameter up to 16”: 12.5 %.

-For nominal diameter of 18” and above: 0.3 mm

NOTE: For 6 Mo, 12.5% has been used for all sizes in accordance with NORSOK L-001 requirement

For HIPS manufacturing process:

0.3 mm on the external Diameter

4.4. ASME B31.3 Chapter 2

According to ASME B31.3 §304.1.2 (Straight Pipe under Internal Pressure), the internal design pressure thickness
for pipe shall not be under value given by equation hereafter:
PD
tm = + CA + Pipe%
2( SE + PY )
With:

• tm = Pressure design thickness of the pipe (mm)

• P = Internal design gage Pressure (barg)

• D = Outside diameter of the pipe as listed in tables of standards (mm)

• S = Stress Value for material (Table A-1A or Table A-1B of ASME B31.3 Appendix A) (bar)

• E = Quality factor (Table A-1A or Table A-1B of ASME B31.3 Appendix A)

E=1 for all thicknesses calculations of this documents

• Y = Coefficient from Table 304.1.1 of ASME B31.3.

Y=0.4 for all thicknesses calculations of this documents

• CA = Corrosion Allowance (mm)

• Pipe% = The MILL tolerance

4.5. ASME B31.3 Chapter 9

For High Pressure classes made, in particular for 10000 API pressure ratings, calculations are covered by ASME
B31.3 Chapter 9.

The following equations from ASME B31.3, K304.1.2(c) and (d) have been considered for Inconel 625 and
superduplex high pressure piping:

tm = Pipe% +
OD
2
1− e[
−1.155 P S
] tm = Pipe% +
ID
2
[e 1.155 P S
]
−1
[K304.1.2(c)] [K304.1.2(d)]

With:
tm = Pressure design thickness of the pipe (mm)
P = Internal design gage Pressure (barg)
OD = Outside diameter of the pipe as listed in tables of standards (mm)
ID = Inside diameter of pipe. For design calculations in accordance with this Chapter, the inside diameter of the pipe
is the maximum value allowable under the specifications.
S = Allowable stresses shall comply with ASME B31.3 and the requirements of PED, Annex 1, Section 7.1.2. (refer
Also to §4.4)
c0 = Sum of External Corrosion Allowance (mm)
c = ci + co, where ci is the Sum of Internal Corrosion Allowance (mm) (Any mechanical, corrosion, or erosion
allowance c, not specified as internal, ci, or external, co, shall be assumed to be internal, i.e. c =ci and co = 0)
Pipe% = the mill tolerance

NOTE 1: Due to that the manufacturing process for the HP manifold and the 18” flowline is not yet selected, two wall
thickness calculations have been performed:

 One calculation based on outside diameter for the forged fabrication from bars process
 One calculation based on inside diameter for the HIPS manufacturing process.

NOTE 2: Formula K304.1.2 (c) and (d) are used only for austenitic stainless steel according to ASME B31.3 rev
2010.
As Duplex stainless steels consists of a combination of austenite and ferrite formula K304.1.2 (a) and (b) can be
used if Manufacturer demonstrates, thanks to specific calculations and similar experience, that formula K304.1.2 (a)
and (b) are applicable for Duplex material. This deviation shall be subject to COMPANY Approval.

4.6. Allowable Stress

Allowable stresses shall comply with the requirements of PED, Annex 1, Section 7.1.2.

4.6.1. Symbols
R e/t , yield limit, indicates the value at the calculation temperature of:
— the upper flow limit for a material presenting upper and lower flow limits,
— the 1,0 % proof strength of austenitic steel and non-alloyed aluminium,
— the 0,2 % proof strength in other cases.
R m/20 indicates the minimum value of the ultimate strength 20 °C.
R m/t designates the ultimate strength at the calculation temperature.

4.6.2. Allowable stress

The permissible general membrane stress for predominantly static loads and for temperatures outside the range in
which creep is significant must not exceed the smaller of the following values, according to the material used:
— in the case of ferritic steel including normalized (normalized rolled) steel and excluding fine-grained steel and
specially heat-treated steel, 2 / 3 of R e/t and 5 / 12 of R m/20 ;
— in the case of austenitic steel: if its elongation after rupture exceeds 30 %, 2 / 3 of R e/t or, alternatively, and if its
elongation after rupture exceeds 35 %, 5 / 6 of R e/t and 1 / 3 of R m/t ;
— in the case of non-alloy or low-alloy cast steel, 10 / 19 of R e/t and 1 / 3 of R m/20 ;
— in the case of aluminium, 2 / 3 of R e/t ;
— in the case of aluminium alloys excluding precipitation hardening alloys 2 / 3 of R e/t and 5 / 12 of R m/20 .
For material not listed in Table K-1, the allowable stress value is determined in accordance with §302.3.2(c)(2) of
ASME B31.3.

When the yield strength at temperature for an unlisted material is contained in ASME Section II, Part D, Table Y-1,
that yield strength at temperature value is used directly in the determination of allowable stress.

NOTE : As mentioned in ASME II part D table Y-1 (rev 2010), the yield strength at temperature value is only
applicable to seamless and welded pipe grade SA790 UNS S32750 with thicknesses below 25 mm. Due to that,
specific qualification shall be required for the 10” & 12” flowlines, the HP manifold and the 18” flowline to validate the
Mechanical characteristics. Refer to NO-HLD-10-AET2-002007 [5] for further details.
