An organism’s life cycle is one of its most fundamental facets — it influences the variety of

traits and its evolution, mode of reproduction, processes in development, and factors such as
the adaptation to a local environment achieving and ecological success. A wide variety of
different life cycles are also found within organisms, which leaves me mesmerized. Relating to
that, diversity on the life cycles of organisms, particularly eukaryotes, are also evident.

In the sexual life cycle of eukaryotes, the fusion of two gametes produces a zygote which is then
followed by meiosis. Life cycles may be in haplontic cycles, diplontic life cycles, or
diplohaplontic life cycles. The latter brought interest to me as it lies between the first two.
Moreover, diplohaplontic life cycles form the most complex life cycles and thus bring up more
variations.

Generally speaking, life cycles allow developmental stages to occur in an organism’s life. Thus, if
organisms die, the life cycle also ends. What I am trying to point out is that we, as members of
the living systems, are interrelated with each other. We strive for our own survival which unifies
us as living organisms.
