Reflective Writing 6

Quincy was a great movie that talked about the life of Quincy Jones, his career and his

struggles with racism in his life and on the road. The movie was very eye opening because it

shows how his life and career were affected by racism, just like many others. In the movie he

said his dad said, “Once a task has just begun, never leave it till its done. Be the labor great or

small, do it well or not at all.” The quote spoke volumes because I could tell that he lived by that

quote and his story just continued to amaze me. He went through many obstacles in is life time

but he still pushed through which is so inspiring to me, especially because you could see his

struggles and how he overcame then, like when he went and had to get a job. He had struggles in

his personal life as well, he and his dad both were very focused on their work which effected

their marriages and family life. It was beautiful to listen to him play the piano and see him in the

works, doing and enjoying what he was made to do—play music. There’s just something about

listening to older musicians and artists speak and talk about their lives and listening to Quincy’s

life story while listening to him talk about his music and times as an artist is so entertaining to

me. Towards the end of the show he said, “I want to the kids to see what the history is about.”

And it spoke to me because that’s exactly why I love hearing about peoples stories through

documentaries and things where they can just tell about their life, hardships, and all of the main

things they learned about over their lifetime.
