E-learning has been praised by several as a highly useful tool for distance learning, an

innovative way to minimize the time taken to travel to work place and its associated
problems, an ability to let firms with tight travel and training budgets train their people at a
low cost, and many other capabilities such as non-contemporaneous and complementary
classroom training that is system supported. Throughout the world, the wave of e-learning is
blowing across the entire education system, from public to private institutions. A study was
conducted in a Malaysian university, in the year 2002. They introduced their e-learning
program as a supplement to the traditional classroom mode. This Malaysian university is
basically a “brick and mortar” style university from its inception with genuine commitment to
exemplary e-learning diffusion within the community. Blackboard 5.0 is the content creator
software used by this Malaysian university. Understanding the factors that influence intention
to adopt electronic learning in general will help to create a more likely environment for
greater adoption, as well as help to formulate strategies to promote acceptance.

The learning technologies such as online lecture videos (OLV) or online learning
environments such as Moodle have obtained much attention in recent years, particularly with
recent developments of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and with universities
attempting to provide a modern learning environment, the question of how potential users
perceive any new learning technology, what their attitudes towards these new technologies
are, and how these factors influence their consuming behavior, remains a difficult subject. A
highly popular acceptance approach is taken from Information Systems (IS) research.
However, unlike in IS, Technology Acceptance Models (TAM) regularly fail to be
reproduced in educational contexts. A major university in Germany conducted four different
studies in this regard and by analysing data from these studies, some important findings such
as the importance of including additional variables measuring a person’s motivation, so as to
better understand a person’s attitudes towards learning technologies, and how learning
behavior can be supported by such technologies was obtained.
