One of the general objectives for a company is to increase market share, since it will be translated
into an increase in customers, sales and, consequently, in revenue.
When calculating market share (or to understand how an existing figure has been calculated) it is
important to consider all metrics; What time frame is it based on? Is it calculated on a particular
product or on a broader category? Is it a national, regional or global market share?

Market share is closely related to the marketing efforts that a company makes, understanding market
share helps to understand how a company is performing within an industry and how it is profiling
itself against its competitors
