ProfEd 313- Social Dimension

1. In your own opinion, is the pillar learning to live together the most difficult to
achieve among the four pillars. Why?
Yes, the pillar learning to live together is the most difficult to achieve
among the four pillars especially we are in Mindanao a multicultural and a
multilingual Region. Although, people here in Mindanao are Culture sensitive
but some are not. Some won’t respect your culture so there is no peace and
harmony. The best example for this is the Kabacan Massacre where the
Maguindanaon and Christians fight.
2. Why is the four pillars of education very essential in the 21st century? Do you
think UNESCO will realize its goal for international peace through these
pillars?

The purpose of the four pillars at learning of the individual level is to ensure
the continuous growth of a person. At the societal and global level, it educates the
individuals as a part of society or global village where they can develop social
responsibility necessary in building a better place to live. A desire to learn
continuously through one’s lifetime is a mark or a 21st century learner. The four
pillars of learning are seen as fundamental principles for reshaping 21 st century
education. The four pillars of learning is proposed as a framework to understand
what students need to acquire and develop in themselves.

Yes, the UNESCO will realize its goal for international peace through these
pillars especially the pillar learning to live together.

Learning to know – You are training your students to be smart and

competitive.
Learning to do – If students already acquired the knowledge, they will
automatically apply those skills confidently. For example if you are
planning to go to another country, you must comply with all laws being
implemented there.
Learning to live together – it relates to communications skills,
multilingualism and culture sensitivity. The UNESCO definitely achieved
its international goal through this pillar because one of its pillars is
“Global Peace”.
Learning to learn – education elevates the morality of the people. If
there is moral there is peace.
