• Born around 1491 in
Vicenza, Republic of Venice
in Italy.
• Italian scholar, geographer
and cartographer.
• Travelled with Ferdinand
Magellan in the first voyage
around the world.
• One of only 18 men who
returned to Spain in 1522.

Voyage Around the World”

• The account of Pigafetta
was published by Giovanni
Ramusio in 1550-1559.
• It contained a vivid
recollections and drawing
of places visited by
Magellan and his crew
during the voyage.
Contributions to Philippine
History
• Pigafetta’s account gave a clear picture on
how the first Europeans were able to
reach the Far East and the Philippines.
• The account itself gave proof of the
existence of a civilized people in the
Philippines.
• It paved the way for the recognition of
Filipino valor against foreign tyranny.
