ARISTOTLE'S MODEL OF COMMUNICATION

ABOUT THE PROPONENT

- an ancient Greek Philosopher and scientist

- born on 384 BCE and died on 322 BCE

- sent to Athens to complete his Education

- the first one to develop a model of communication

WHY ARISTOTLE MADE THE MODEL OF COMMUNICATION

- he found the importance of audience role in communication chain

- this model of communication was highly used to develop public speaking skills and create a
propaganda at that time

ABOUT THE MODEL

- mainly focused on speaker and speech.

- the speaker has the most important role in it and is the only one active.

- gives the most importance to the setting where the audience is situated

- a linear model of communication/ a one way process of communication

- The role of the audience is passive, influenced by the speech.


- no feedback is needed from the receiver

- most common model of communication

- this model's main goal is to influence the audince or the receiver

FIVE BASIC ELEMENTS OF ARISTOTLE'S MODEL OF COMMUNICATION

1. SPEAKER - the one who organizes the speech beforehand, according to the target audience and
situation (occasion)

2. SPEECH/MESSAGE - the message being delivered by the speaker that aims to influence the audience

3. AUDIENCE - the person or people who listens and receives the speech of the speaker

4. OCCASION - refers to when and where the speech is delivered by the speaker

5. EFFECT - referes to the impactbof the speech to the audience and how the audience are being
influenced.

LEGAL SETTING

- held in courts

- used in legal proceedings

- needs legal language

CEREMONIAL SETTING

- used to commemorate an occasion being celebrated

- held in ceremonial events

- the speech depends on the occasion and the audience lsitening to the speech

DELIBERATIVE SETTING

- used in poltical debates


- aims to persuade the audience or the listeners to agree with the speaker

SIGNIFICANCE

- highly used to develop public speaking

- plays an important role in the justice system

- can be used in a speech that doesn't need a feedback
