Pharmaceutical Mixtures: Lotion and Liniment (Topical Liquid Preparations)

Rx. Benzyl benzoate Application BP.,
50ml
Apply to the affected area for Scabies

. Formula:
Benzyl benzoate (BB) 250g
Emulsifying wax 20g
Purified water, freshly boiled
and cooled ………………………q.s. 1000ml

Procedure: Calibrate the container bottle.

 Weigh BB into a beaker and place to warm in a water bath…I
 Melt the wax (mpt 52) in another beaker at 60 degrees centigrade…II
 Warm an excess of water to 60 degrees centigrade….III
 Take care you do not shake the bottle. It is difficult to make accurate additions once
the bottle has been shaken
 Transfer I into the container, then followed by II and enough of III to the mark.
 Replace the closure and shake until cold.
