VAR OF Lynzy Labs “ A Scary Time for Boys”

I am analyzing a video that was on the Jimmy Kimmel late night show which was song

called “A Scary Time (for Boys)’’. This video was live in 2018, and in this video, it shows the

audiences how it feels to be a girl. Also, showing how women are treated in today’s world. In

this video it shows that women always have to look behind them and check around them. Cause

most of the times women are getting judged not just by boys, but even other women judged and

try to bring down other women. I would say that is aimed at men especially Donald Trump, and

it is trying to show awareness to men how women feel about hearing how hard it is to be a boy.

She shows this in her lyrics by telling the horrors of being a woman.

In this song by Lynzy Lab it expresses women fearing to do stuff because what can

happen. Lynzy main inspiration for making this song was that people that had power were

talking about the “it is a scary time to be a boy”. Even though women sexism happened more in

the olden times. That does not mean it cannot happen these days sexism happens till this day, as

Donald trump’s comments were. There are still women being sexually harassed, or even raped

which is terrible. Those points are pointed out in this video.

The creative process that I make will back up my points as I use Lynzy Lab’s lyrics. The

examples that I will use are straight from her song lyrics, and also what is going on in the

background of the video. I will be also saying what led to this song and why it is so important.

This process is going to try to have a powerful message to men for sexism towards women using

Lynzy lyrics.

The jimmy Kimmel show has always had amazing moments. On October 11, 2020 A sing

named Lynzy Lab wrote and performed a song called “A Scary Time for Boys”. This song was

made because of Donald trump comments made saying “it is a scary time for boys” The problem

at hand is the judgment of women, and the fear a woman has when going out. There is a huge

difference in how women are treated from men in real life. Statistics show that globally 243

million women and girls were abused in the past year (UN Women). This video was very

moving because of the time in 2018 where social media is at an all-time high. That will bring a

lot of attention to the subject of sexism and the discrimination of women. Women have more to

fear when leaving the house and what they are wearing at the time no matter if they are poor or

not. While men can do whatever they want and not have the fear of being sexually harassed.

Sexism is why women cannot be them self’s when they are in public.

One thing that is very interesting about this video was the way the women would be in

fear of going out with being judged, or even wearing something like a skirt even if that is the

only clothes they have. When women go out is the same as men going out and there should be no

difference. Even if you are a boy or a girl should not take the fact how you go outside or what

you wear. Men should not judge other women by the way they look because they do not know

what their life situation could be. The way that Lynzy Lab was describing how women are

treated by men and even by women is very sexist and rude. In the video she describes how she

cannot go out and be herself and have a good time. When men can go out and have a great time

and not being heavily judged. People have a stereotype for women that is basically saying if they

are having a good time and being there self then they are out of control and crazy. Also, if they

are wearing tight and small clothing they called ‘’thots’’ which means they sleep with many

men, and they also want attention. However, this rarely happens to men. This video shows men

and also other women who judged other women a perceptive in the victims’ shoes. It also shows

how women can feel afraid of going out because they do not know what could happen to them.

Another thing to take in account is how many sexual predators are in the world. Women are

scared that if they go outside for a drink. Men can try to put something in their drink and try to

rape or sexually harassed them in some way. This video brings more awareness because of the

age we are living in with social media.

The way the sing Lynzy Lab sings about how woman are treated and judged in other men

eyes is a huge part of sexism. The singer shows and explains how when she goes out, she has to

eyes in the back of her head so she can see people not judging her or looking at her in a sexual

way. She proceeds to say that “She cannot leave her drink unattended’’. Before that it said that

woman cannot even dance with their friends just for fun. It also says that women cannot wear

skirts even if that is the only thing they can afford to wear. Lynzy make sure the audience knows

that sometimes she is afraid to walk at night to her car on her phone because she does not know

what can happen. Also, she says she cannot use public transportation after 7 pm. This is because

she does not know what can happen to her. Later in the video she continues to say she cannot be

truthful or brutely honest when talking to a boy. In the middle of the video she sings about how it

is “hard to be a boy at this time in history’. At the end of the video the women singing with

Lynzy say that they cannot run in the city with headphone in their ears because they would be

judged.

The way that Lynzy described going out when being a woman and how men treat them

shows sexism. In the video she says she could not even go on public transportation after 7 pm.

This is because they have a fear of being sexually harassed, or even worse raped. Instead of like

men going wherever they want and wear whatever they want and not be judged or crucified for

it. She also goes on and says that she cannot even wear a small skirt if it is the only one, she has.

Which is very sad because it means that men will think of those women being thots which also

means they also want sexual attention. However, people do not say that some clothes that men

wear can be sexual attention seeking, but because women do it is made as a big deal.

The way the song portrays the treatment of women is very sexist. In the scene while she

is singing her song there are lot of different woman that come out. There is woman that come out

with different weight sizes, and also there are different race of women. They are all victims of

sexism by men. Men tend to sexually harass woman behind there back and also to their face.

However, in this age there is more opportunity for women to speak out because of the social

media. Every woman should not be harassed and judged when walk past, or even for what they

are wearing. Women should not be afraid to go outside on public transportation of fear they

might get sexually harassed or even raped.

Lynzy Lab’s message for the song “A scary time for boys” was a good message for the

issue of sexism. The song and the lyrics show how scary uncomfortable it is to be like a woman.

It shows how men judge and make women sad and depressed. Women have always been put in a

stereotype by men. If they are not in the stereotype, then they constantly are judged. Women

have always been disrespected since the start of civilization. However, in the social media age

there has been more awareness. For people like Lynzy and other women have been expressing

their feelings on sexism towards women. The whole message was to show men how it feels to be

a woman and the way women view when men judge or harass them.
