Rules Consequences
Rule: Cellphones must be on silent, put away,
and out of sight for the entire class period. The
only exception is when cellphones must be used
for academic purposes in the classroom. Once it
is used for an academic purpose, it must be on
silent, put away, and out of sight immediately.
Rationale: Students must be attentive to the
academics and learning within the classroom.
Cellphones can distract a student’s learning and
the learning of others around them.
Rule: Students must have a hall pass with them
when they are outside of the classroom during
class time. Students must first ask permission to
leave class. There will only be two hall passes
available, so if they are both taken, students
must wait for a student to get back to leave.
Students must also sign in and out when they
leave class.
Rationale: Teachers and other school officials
must know why and where students are outside
of class for the student’s safety.
Rule: Students must raise their hand before
talking in class. I will recognize that you would
like to talk in class by calling on you when your
hand is raised. The only exception is that I will call
on students who haven’t spoken or participated
that day when I have no hands raised to talk or
answer questions.
Rationale: Students must be respectful of their
classmates’ contributions and input to the class.
Rule: Students must use language that is
appropriate and respectful in the classroom.
There will be no profanities allowed in the
classroom at all.
Rationale: Students must respect and be kind to
everyone in the classroom. Profanities are not
used or spoken in professional settings.
Rule: Students may leave their seat to sharpen
their pencil, staple their papers, get a tissue, and
do things around the classroom when I have
finished teaching, and everyone is working
independently on their work. Preferably, the best

they may not leave class without asking for
permission first and taking a hall pass with them.
Second consequence: Student will receive a
lunch detention. A parent will be contacted.
Third consequence: Student will not be
permitted to leave class at all. Parents will be
contacted to meet with the teacher and
administration will take place with both parent
and student input.
First consequence: Student will be reminded to
raise their hand before they talk in class.
Second consequence: Student will receive a
lunch detention. A parent will be contacted.
Third consequence: Student will receive an after-
school detention. Parents will be contacted to set
up a meeting with the teacher and administration
will be devised then.
First consequence: Student will be warned that
they must use appropriate and respectful
language in the classroom.
Second consequence: Student will receive a
lunch detention and must write an apology letter
to the entire classroom or classmates that they
used the profanity toward.
Third consequence: Student will receive an after-
school detention. Parents will be contacted to
meet with the teacher to discuss administration
with the student.
First consequence: Student will be reminded that
they cannot leave their seat until I have finished
teaching, and everyone is working independently
on their work.
Second consequence: Student will receive a
time for a student to leave their seat is when they
have finished their work. Only one student can be
out of their seat at a time.
Rationale: The classroom is a calm and peaceful
space. A chaotic environment is not conducive to
a student’s or their classmates’ learning. Students
must be respectful to their classmates and not
cause a distraction in the classroom.
Rule: Students must arrive on class on time. If a
student arrives to class two minutes and above
after class starts, they are considered late to
class.
Rationale: Timeliness is crucial to a student’s
learning, so they don’t miss anything in class. It is
also important in professional settings, such as
jobs, to be on time. It is also a form of respect to
arrive on time to the other person or people.
Rule: Students must be prepared in the beginning
of class. Students must sit in their assigned seats
and have materials that they need for class out
on their desk.
Rationale: It is important to start class right away
and not interrupt the flow of the classroom. It is
crucial that students are ready to learn in the
beginning of class to maximize their learning.
