9 Weeks Exam Review

-Classical Guitar Parts Review all the names, their function, and where they are located on the guitar.

-Basic Music Notation (treble clef, g clef, staff, measures, musical alphabet, how to read the notes on

the staff [lines & spaces])

-Basic Notes/Values (whole note, half note, dotted half note, quarter note, eighth note, sixteenth note,

note head, stem, flag, beats)


-Basic Rhythms (counting) (I may have you play/count 8 measures and submit)

-Basic Rests/Values (whole rest, dotted whole rest, half rest, dotted half rest, dotted rest, quarter rest,

dotted quarter rest, eighth rest, dotted eighth rest, sixteenth rest)

-Fingerings (left & right hand) p, i, m, a, 4, 3, 2, 1, c


-Posture (correct vs incorrect, 4 points of contact, etc.)

-1st position notes (note name, string, fret number) (may ask to play all in a scale from open 6 th string all

the way to the 1st string) ( EFG, ABC, DEF, GA, BCD, EFG, and the back

FE, DCB, GA, FED, CBA, GFE)

-Accidentals (sharps[raises pitch], flats[lowers pitch(I may have you play a short couple of measures and

submit), naturals[cancels previous accidental], half step)

-A Harmonic Minor Scale Be able to play and name a note If I were to ask note name, string number,

and fret number.

- Free Stroke/rest stroke Be able to tell the difference and be able to play both.

-Playing (I may have you play/count 8 measures and submit) a portion of In the Hall of Mountain King.

Keep practicing all the pieces/warm-up exercises, scales. Don’t get discouraged,
as this will take some time. The more you practice, the better it will get.
Important thing is to practice S-L-O-W-L-Y..
