Diversity and Inclusion Today

LT4 Living Discipline Photo Essay: Social Studies

CDPD 500
Zach Adams
In Alberta, Canada,
and the World, the
LGBTQ community
has had a long
history of fighting
for equality and
acceptance in
today’s society.
Although we have come a
long way regarding LGBTQ
rights…
Still… many today
deal with hate,
bullying, and
harassment for how
they identify sexually.
There are many
recent examples of
how this community
has been the target
of hate fuelled acts.
This community,
however, is resilient and
still find ways of
celebrating their identity
proudly.
Even in the
democracy of
Canada the LGBTQ
community faces
challenges from the
system that’s
suppose to protect
them.
Social Studies however,
teaches us
“commitment to
respecting differences
and fostering
inclusiveness”
Its also shows us
that “diversity
contributes to the
development of a
vibrant democratic
society”
And most importantly,
“diversity has been an
important asset in the
evolution of Canadian
society.”
We as a society need to learn and work together to create a culture of
acceptance and inclusion regardless of your sexual identity, or anything
that makes you “different”.
