In the islands of Samar and Leyte, originates a traditional Dance of Courtship that depicts the flirtatious

movements of the rooster and the hen in courtship. This is Kuratsa.

The Kuratsa is believed to be a Mexican import (supposedly from La Cucaracha dance typical to
Monterrey region of Mexico) - the Kuratsa is however, very different in the manner of execution than
the Mexican counterpart.

NO social event with a pasayaw or social dancing is complete without the kuratsa. It is usually
performed during reunions, weddings, and fiestas to name a few.

Traditionally, the girl wears patadyong kimono which represents Visayan clothing.

The Kuratsa must be done the amenudo-way, that is, only one couple dances it at a time.
