Opportunity:
There are an estimated 3.7 million household burglaries every
year, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Biometrics is
very hard for criminals to get around because they’re specific to
the individual and are extremely hard to replicate. Our home
security system will utilize biometrics to combat home invasions.
Home security companies, such as ADT, charge anywhere from
$40-$60 for their monthly services. Our system will make homes
safer while also making security more affordable.
Solution:
Fingerprint scanning technology is used today in products like
the iPhone, which can already differentiate between if the finger
is a human finger or a plastic print.
Biometric technology that can scan and recognize facial features
for identity is already in use today. There is not, however, any
feasible consumer technology for anything that can recognize
posture and movement for a person. Since biometrics and the
current technology available can fit into compact systems
already, our solution is much more viable in terms of price,
deliverability, and functionality.
Societal Challenges:
• Money: An improved security system will be costly.
• Trust: People need to trust us with their privacy. The system
isn't exactly data friendly as the system needs to have data
confirmed and transferred from our database.
• Support: The system needs to be upgraded and updated
frequently for it to be effective.
