qualities are the cues that the family
members verbalized such as that they are
taking multivitamins and vitamin C as a
way of enhancing their immune system,
the family’s awareness if there is
something wrong about the water, and
health concerns interventions such as they
immediately call their health provider.

and the student nurse are knowledgeable
2 enough about the benefits of enhancing
the immune system and the importance of
clean water and health in general as they
take in concern of their environment and
safety in food intake. And resources such
as private healthcare clinics are available
to the family. In addition, the family
follows a schedule when to visit private
healthcare clinics annually.

Inability to provide a home environment

environment improvement. And improper

family.
Improper garbage disposal has been the
2/2 X 2 problem of Mrs. Mendoza for a long time
because they rely on the regular collection
of garbage in Valenzuela. Aside from
recycling, there is no intervention done by
2 the family to manage the problem.
Luckily, the problem is not that severe to
cause health problems to the family.And
as Mrs. Mendoza stated, she lives with her
husband and three sons that’s why in
terms of manpower the family has the
capability to do the intervention also the
family resources is enough since the
monthly income of the family range is 150
to 200k. The student nurses have the
knowledge and time to identify and to
prevent the problem.

the recyclable materials are segregated
and the improper garbage disposal has
been a problem for a long time but the

doesn’t affect their daily lives. They do
not have a current management for the
segregation of biodegradables and not as
she stated that she mixes it in one plastic
and she was guilty about it.

JUSTIFICATION

hantavirus which could affect anyone at
home.
The family has enough resources since

health with their 150k-200k pesos income

family who can help in manpower for the
intervention activities and from the
Physical Assessment, they are all
physically able to do so. There are also
modern or even traditional ways and tools
to address the problem available in the
country which they can afford
( insecticides, rat sticky). Student nurses
have time and are knowledgeable about
ways on how to prevent sites of vectors
and cockroaches (Wash dishes and put
away after meals, clean crumbs and spills
immediately, take out the garbage before
going to bed, remove grease from stove
top, seal food in containers which they do,
mop on a regular basis, and some
available cockroach repellents and traps).
Also, they stated that they can often seek
help from the community when needed.
The problem is not severe because it does

groups.

managing it but they were not able to
completely eliminate the problem, the
reason why the mother stated that they are
doing everything they can but it is still

It is considered as a stress point because

gadgets is not good for her children. This

could lead to negligence of their own
health. As stated by their mother, it affects
their eye sights. It is also perceived as a
negative change by the mother and affects
their communication because they seem to
lose their attention to what their mother is
saying which could affect the family
functioning. According to a study,
engaging in too much use of gadgets
could affect the family function.

existing activities to prevent getting
addicted to technology like joining
community activities which are present in
their community, as stated, exercise,
sports, and more. They have the physical
capability to perform these intervention
activities because they are mostly
physically healthy and they have enough
resources to engage in recreational
activities such as their half basketball
court and gym room.
It is considered as moderate in preventive
potential because the gravity of the
problem is not severe but it has been
taking place for a long time, since their
adolescent period. They are also not
exposed to vulnerable or high-risk groups
as they were only staying at home. The
mother is also taking actions to manage
the problem, she stated that she sets a time
limit. If it is time to sleep, she urges her
children to go to bed and that is her way
to control their gadget addiction. The fact
that she has some ways to control it, is
already considered as a management.
The problem is perceived by the mother
as a negative change in their family that is
why it is considered as a problem needing
1 immediate action. As it is the reason why
the children are not studying hard and the
reason why they are preoccupied resulting
in them not hearing what their mother is
saying. The mother also stated that time is
wasted due to using gadgets throughout
the day and that it is bad for her children,
since it affects their health, specifically
their eyesight. Also, the mother takes
action to control them through setting a
time limit for using gadgets but cannot
fully control it especially in daytime.

From the summary of prioritized family health conditions and problems, the group of student
nurses decided that the first priority is the Readiness for enhanced capability for health
maintenance/management, the second priority is the Readiness for enhanced capability for a
healthy lifestyle as a wellness state, and the third priority is the Readiness for Enhanced
capability for good and open communication maintenance among family members as a wellness
state.

The group decided about the three priorities since there are several conditions that have the same
score. We chose health management and healthy lifestyle because prioritizing these could help
the family to be more motivated to continue and enhance their knowledge about it for they could
have those qualities constantly even in the future. We chose the third priority as it is a good
practice to enhance it so that the family could have a maintained better understanding of each
other and that could also maintain them to have a highly functional family.
