SEPTEMBER 2020 - EDITION 68- 20 CENTS

A Guide For The Newcomers

by Sissie Koniari ( English teacher- Editor in chief)

Summer is coming to an end, school has already come back into session so I would like to extend a warm welcome to
all our newcomers to Anoixi Junior High School as well as to all my beloved second and third graders!!What you are
reading now is the Anoixi Herald, our school newspaper and I strongly encourage you to write some articles for it.
Don't be embarrassed or afraid, all articles are welcome! Here are just a few guidelines. The articles should be:
• between 100 and 200 (not too small, not too big!)
• sent to the Anoixi Herald e-mail address (theanoixiherald@gmail.com)
• or the website (www.anoixiherald.weebly.com) under Contact
• in English, but don't worry if there are any mistakes, because we will fix them, so
they will appear fabulous when the next edition of the paper comes out!!
• A few ideas: news, clubs sports, events, short stories, interviews, reviews, trends, opinion columns, quizzes,
puzzles, jokes, mysteries, science... anything that is of interest to you!

Here are a few of the events that took place at our school the past two years:
As you probably know already, our school has participated in many Erasmus+ exchange student programmes. Our
students travelled to lots of places and gained invaluable experiences! Here are some pictures

PROGRAM : Let’s discover Europe together, finding harmony in our differences

Unfortunately everything changed with the pandemic… We just need to be EXTRA careful and
this, too, shall pass!
Just before schools closed in June, we held the newspaper draw as we do do every year!
The lucky winners this year, who won vouchers from Public to buy whatever they want were:
1. Balomenou Fay -20 €
2. Voulgari Renia-20 €
3. Krokida Violetta-20 €
4. Vidali Anastasia-20 €
5. Hariati Mary-20 €
6. Riga Stavrianna-20 €
7. Varou Aggelina-30 €
Back to the articles business…Here is a wonderful and very useful article to help you get the idea of how
this works! This is an article written by a third-grader:

Angel falls -Venezuela

Angel Falls (Spanish: Salto Ángel; Pemon language: Kerepakupai Meru meaning
"waterfall of the deepest place", or Parakupá Vená, meaning "the fall from the
highest point") is a waterfall in Venezuela. It is the world's highest uninterrupted
waterfall, with a height of 979 metres (3,212 ft) and a plunge of 807 m (2,648 ft).
The waterfall drops over the edge of the Auyán-tepui mountain in the Canaima
National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Canaima), a UNESCO World Heritage
site in the Gran Sabana region of Bolívar State. The height figure, 979 m (3,212 ft),
mostly consists of the main plunge but also includes about 400 metres (1,300 ft) of
sloped cascade and rapids below the drop and a 30-metre (98 ft) high plunge
downstream of the rapids.

The waterfall has been known as the Angel Falls since the mid-20th century; they
are named after Jimmie Angel, a US aviator, who was the first person to fly over the
falls. Angel's ashes were scattered over the falls on 2 July 1960.
