Reflection on the narrative of my literacy journey

 What is your purpose in writing this essay?

The purpose of writing this essay was to let my audience know how I struggled with both

reading and writing part of the English language and the life-changing event which made me the

writer I am today.

 What do you hope to communicate?

I hope to communicate the story of how I became the reader and writer and how it has

been affecting my literacy life.

 Who do you imagine your readers are?

The audience for this essay is very general like people who are also struggling, fellow

students who might be interested in reading my story and my professor.

 What effect do you want your essay to have on them?

I want them to learn how they can achieve anything they set their mind to even if they are

really stressed about how they are going to work the situation out. I want to make a positive

impact on their life.

 What was your process in writing this piece?

o How did you decide what to write about?

I adopted the free-writing technique and let my creative juices flow until I had the

perfect topic in my mind that I wanted to write about and share with my audience.

o How did you plan your essay?

I planned my essay in chronological order. I shared my bilingual background first

and then shared the actual event. I finished the essay by sharing some final thoughts

about how all the literacy events combined had an impact on my life.

o What changes did you make along the way?

I made many changes along the way like correcting grammar mistakes, taking

some details out, adding some details in and the conclusions paragraph.

o What decisions did you make about this essay, and how did you make them?

I made a decision to share the experience I had with the Harry-potter books. The

free-writing technique helped me made this decision as I wrote everything about my

literacy life onto the piece of paper until that event stood out.

 How did responses and feedback from your classmates in workshop help you?

The responses from my groupmates helped me a lot. I took their suggestions and made

the corrections accordingly. My groupmates also gave me very kind compliments which

encouraged me to make my essay more thoughtful and impactful.

 How did any classwork help you in writing this essay?

I like how my class is structured. The weekly discussion assignments helped me get the

idea of requirements of college level reading and writing. The different essay-related

assignments I had before submitting the actual were really helpful as they laid the foundation of

my essay.
