Cite one situation using the new learning delivery modalities amid this pandemic, where assessment,
testing, measurement and evaluation are evident. Describe each concept.

The present COVID-19 global pandemic has brought extraordinary challenges and has completely
changed our educational practices from classrooms now to the class homes. Most of the learners prefer
the Modular Distance Learning while some chose Online Distance Learning and a few others, the
Blended Learning. For online distance learning where majority of my students have chosen, assessment
can be done so easily for as long as the internet connection is stable. Since assessment includes the
different ways that the teachers use to gather information in the classroom then this could be done
formally or informally. During online classes teachers may conduct assessment before the introduction
of the lesson( assessment as learning) such as , during the lesson proper (assessment for learning) and
after the lesson (assessment of learning). These information helps teachers understand their students as
well as plan and monitor their classroom instruction. Testing on the other hand, is formal and systematic
instrument, usually paper and pencil procedure designed to assess the quality, ability, skill or knowledge
of the students by giving a set of questions in uniform manner just like online quizzes. In an online class
testing maybe done through the use of google forms or google quiz and even through sending the test
questions via email. Measurement is a process of quantifying or assigning number to the individual’s
intelligence, personality, attitudes and values, and achievement of the students. Which means that when
you give scores to the test or activity you are actually measuring. Lastly, evaluation is the process of
judging the quality of what is good and what is desirable. Teachers evaluate how well or to what extent
the students attained the instructional outcome. During an evaluation teachers may either say that the
students have passed or failed or have performed poorly, satisfactorily.

Choose two types of assessment tools that are least practiced in your class. In each type, do the
following:

A. Explain why it is least practiced in your class.

B. Discuss on how you will apply it more frequently as possible in your class.

C. Provide an example.

Assessment and its related concepts are important components of curriculum and instruction as they tell
if the curriculum was delivered as planned and if its intents were attained or not by the target learners. It
also tells if instruction has been effective in helping the learners attain what is essential as defined by the
curriculum.
Case study is a learning practice that shifts the emphasis from lecture-based activities towards more student-based
activities. The aim of case study is to help students demonstrate the theoretical concepts in real-life issues. In general,
teaching materials can be a short journal, news article, a scenario of problem solving and decision making; they can be
an open-ended question, a picture or even a diagram.

2. Honestly, I don’t usually assign my students to do case studies and article reviews. I do acknowledge
that these two are useful tools which encourage deep learning and can also provide an efficient way to
assess their knowledge and understanding of a particular topic. This can also stimulate analytical and
critical thinking skills. However, many of my students seem unfamiliar with this tool and it really takes
a lot of time to explain to them the instructions because I have to go back to the very basic concept of
this tool. This also needs extensive supervision and guidance and checking also takes time which means
that feedback would somehow be delayed. But I think applying to my class more often would help my
learners so I’ll review the competencies and examine where will these tools best fit. For instance, if the
competency is to determine the relevance and the truthfulness of the ideas presented in the material
viewed then I can do scaffolding to gradually introduce the students to do an article revie and a case
study. I will be providing them mini tasks such as summarizing main ideas, constructing thoughtful
reasoning, identifying problems and solutions as wels as analyzing causes and effects. With this students
sudents will somehow be ready to do the assessment tool.
