Disease situation update, IDP camps (“Jalozai”, “Togh Sarai” and “New Durrani”)

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA


Week 42 (October 13 – 19, 2013) – Eid-ul-Adha week
Highlights:

 Acute Respiratory tract Infections (ARI) accounted for 22.6% or 411 cases of the total
patients (1,818 consultations) in all age groups and is showing 1% increase in percentage of
ARI patient visits as compared to week 41.
 Other Acute Diarrhea (OAD) accounted for 9.5% or 172 cases of the total patient
consultations in all age groups by showing 0.1% decrease in percentage as compared to OAD
patient visits in previous week.
 Suspected malaria (MAL) shared 1.4% or 25 cases of all patient visits.

 Skin Infections (SCB) reported as 2.2% or 40 cases of the total patient consultations.
 No alert was reported in this week.

Table 1 shows a total of 1,818 consultations reported through DEWS during week 42. Eight (8) health static units
(6 from Jalozai IDP camp and 1 each from Togh Sarai and New Durrani Kurram Agency IDP camps) shared
daily/weekly disease surveillance data through DEWS.

Figure 2 shows proportional trend in KP and FATA IDP camps. ARI shared 22.6% or 411 cases is showing 1%
increase in percentage and OAD shared 9.5% or 172 cases is showing 0.1% decrease as compared to last week in
percentage.

A comparison of the ARI consultations in 3 IDP camps on week 42 shows that high proportion of ARI cases are
reported accounted for 22.6% (URTI 21.9% and Pneumonia 1.7%), or 411 cases followed by OAD 9.5% or 172
cases. Suspected malaria comprised 1.4% or 25 cases in consolidated data out of total consultations.

Figure 3 shows proportional trend in Jalozai IDP camp. ARI shared 24.2% or 284 cases is showing 1% increase and
OAD shared 9.3% or 109 cases is showing 0.2% increase in percentage as compared to week 41.

Figure 4 shows proportional trend in Togh Sarai IDP camp. During week 42 ARI shared 19% or 75 cases is showing
3% increase and OAD shared 13% or 51 cases is showing 2.3% decrease as compared to previous week.

Figure 5 shows proportional trend in New Durrani IDP camp. During week 42 ARI shared 21% or 52 cases showing
0.5% increase in percentage and OAD shared 5% or 12 cases showing 2% decrease as compared to last week.

The figure 6 shows last two weeks comparison of ARI, BD, OAD and SCB proportional in 3 IDP camps. High
proportion of ARI and OAD consultations reported from Jalozai IDP camp as compared to Togh Sarai and New
Durrani IDP camp in week 42. Similarly suspected malaria high proportion reported from New Durrani IDP camp as
compared to Togh Sarai and Jalozai IDP camps. ARI 24%, OAD 9.3% and suspected Malaria 0.5% shared from
Jalozai IDP camp. Also ARI 19%, OAD 13% and suspected Malaria 3% reported from Togh Sarai IDP camp while ARI
21%, OAD 5% and suspected malaria 3.2% reported from New Durrani IDP camp. No alert was reported in this
week.
Figure 7: Age and gender wise segregate morbidity in 3 IDP camps

Figure 7 shows comparison of the consultations by gender and age wise in all diseases, male to female patients’
ratio reported was 46.4% or 844 cases (523 cases from Jalozai, 211 cases from Togh Sarai and 110 cases from New
Durrani ) and 53.6% or 974 (651 cases from Jalozai, 185 cases from Togh Sarai and 138 cases from New Durrani
IDP camp) respectively.
