TASK ANALYSIS – Non musical

NAME Emily Bryson__________________________________________

Write down the steps you took to teach your Martian to eat a bowl of hot, steamy
oatmeal!

Explain in detail why you took this path and what your thinking process was in this
activity.

Steps:

1. Hand the Martian the bowl of oatmeal in one hand, and a spoon in the other.
2. Tell Martian to put the spoon into the bowl of oatmeal, while modeling it as well.
3. Show Martian how to make a scooping motion with the spoon, in order to get
oatmeal onto the spoon.
4. Tell Martian to bring spoon up to lips and blow on it lightly, with rounded lips,
while modeling it as well.
5. Tell Martian to open mouth and put the spoon, with the oatmeal on it, inside their
mouth, while modeling it as well.
6. Tell Martian to swallow the oatmeal on the spoon.

Process:

The first part of my process included thinking about the difference a Martian may
have compared to my abilities. This could include language, anatomy, ability to hear and
see me, and ability to swallow. I decided that the Martian in this example would be able
to see and hear me, and possibly speak some English, as well as swallow the oatmeal. My
next task included thinking of the small steps of eating oatmeal, including scooping the
oatmeal onto the spoon. After listing the steps I take to eat oatmeal, I then wrote them out
as simply as possible, including instructions to model each step for the Martian.
