What is Vitamin D?
● Vitamin D is a nutrient found in some
foods that is needed for health and to
maintain strong bones.

● Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium

● Vitamin D is the only vitamin that is


produced when the body is exposed to
sun.
Sources of Vitamin D
• Flesh of fatty fish such as tuna, salmon,
mackerel
• Fish liver oil
• Beef liver, cheese and egg yolks
• Mushrooms
• Fortified foods such as milk, yogurt, orange
juice and ready-to-eat breakfast cereals
• Infant formula

• Sun Exposure without sunscreen


• Tanning beds that emit 2-6%
ultraviolet light
