Synopsis:
When a young boy, Patrick, is struck with a deadly disease, his days
became numbered. His mother, Vivian, had to work to pay for the medical
bills of Patrick, leaving him all alone in the hospital, making his life boring
and dull, until he met Alice. After meeting with Alice while looking at the
stars above them, they started to feel a connection to each other. Will they
have enough time for a happy ending? Or have they met their true loves a
little too late?
Patrick was once a happy kid before one day he fainted and was rushed into the hospital by his
parents and relatives. When they reached the hospital, he was directly brought in the emergency
room. He was immediately checked by the doctor. “I am so sorry to say this but Patrick, your
son, has been diagnosed with stage one leukemia,” Doctor Borromeo said. The family became
silent. They don't know what to do and tears of sorrow were flowing from the eyes of his parents.
They stood in shock for they couldn't fathom the fact that their only son had been diagnosed with
this some kind of disease that who knows what it could do to him. Vivian, mother of Patrick,
approached him lying down his hospital bed silent crying for her son. "That's okay, son. We will
fight this battle together as a family. Your battle is our battle," Vivian whispered as she caressed
her son's cheek. A few hours have passed, Patrick finally woke up from his sleep. His eyes
squinted a bit as he opened them because of the bright glow originating from the fluorescent
lights. Clueless of his state, he looked around the room with plain, blank, and dull hospital walls.
"Mom what happened?" Patrick asked. "You have Stage one Leukemia," his mom said. Upon
hearing his mother's response a tear rolled down his face? He didn't know what to say. He faced
his mother and said," Mom am I going to be okay?" "Of course sweetie we will be right here for
you," Vivian said. He smiled. He smiled because even after everything his mom is there to
support him. He spent weeks and months in the hospital not knowing when he could come out.
Until one day..... "Patrick I have good news for you," his mom said with a very bright smile
plastered on her face. “We found a suitable place for you to recover," his mom continued. He
smiled at his mom but his smile didn’t' reach his ear. "Nice to hear that mom," he replied He
knew that going to that place or hospital would give his mom a bigger bill and that she would
miss him. The days have passed and the time came. Time for him to transfer to another hospital/
house for the sick. He really doesn't want to go but his mother insisted. When they arrived at the
hospital it was already dark. "Good evening, how may I help you?" the girl in the front desk
asked politely. “I am Mrs. Williams and this is my son Patrick," Vivian answered. "Oh right,
Mrs. Williams welcome to St. Michael’s. I am Lucy your assigned nurse," she introduced
herself. Lucy is in her mid-40 so she looks like a mother to Patrick. Lucy accompanied them and
gave them a little tour around but only a part of the hospital. "This is your room Sir Patrick,
Room 143," she said and pointed to the room. Lucy explained a lot about the rules and
regulations about the hospital but Patrick doesn't seem to have any interest in it so he didn't
listen. After the small talk with Nurse Lucy and his mother, Nurse Lucy went out. "Dear you
know I love you right? I am sorry if I have to leave you here, I just think that you will recover
faster here since I heard it's the best hospital in the country," his mother apologetically said. He
smiled and hugged her mother, “I know Mom and I love you too". She kissed his forehead and
went out. He examined the room and there were a lot of things there: a television, a small
furniture set, a dining table for 4, his bed and of course a bathroom. He stared at the ceiling and
drifted to sleep. It has been 2 weeks since Patrick arrived in St. Michael's and boy he is bored. He
stared at the ceiling not knowing what to do. He went to the table and picked up the book that
one of the nurses lent him. The book's title was "The Fault In Our Stars" by John Green. Patrick
really doesn't have the likes to read a book but since he is bored to death he occupied himself
with the book. “Mr. Williams you have a call, would you mind coming to the office?" he heard a
voice in the intercom. Shocking but yes each room has separate intercoms attached. He put the
book back to where he got it and went out. “Hi mom," he answered the phone. He know that
only his mom would call him so he answered it directly. "Hi sweetie how are you?” Vivian
asked. Patrick smiled. He missed his mom so much that he wishes to see here at the very
moment. “I’m fine mom just a little bored but still fighting," he replied. “Good to hear that Pat,
but uhmmm I am so sorry I can't visit you next week," she said. He smile faded. He can’t blame
his mom since they are kilometers apart. "It's okay mom even though I don’t know the reason
why I know it's important. I understand," he said and tried to sound happy. He doesn't want to let
his mom to feel that he is sad so he tried to smile even though she can't see him. They talked for
hours in the phone and he felt safe and happy hearing his mom's voice "Got to go baby, see you
soon. I love you and take care," his mom said with her voice starting to crack.

"Mom I'm fine you don't need to worry," he replied and put the telephone back. Upon walking
back to his room he saw the map of the whole hospital. There were more than 400 rooms and just
until know, he discovered that the hospital is so big. He inspected the map and saw that there is a
garden in the 3rd building so he went there. He reached the third building and went to the rooftop
where the garden is located. It was already 8 o'clock in the evening so he could already see the
stars shining up above. He laid down on the grass and decides to stargaze for a bit. He was
enjoying the peaceful night when he heard someone talk. "They're beautiful, aren’t they?" He
looked at the person and saw a girl. He couldn't see her properly since the place isn't that well
lighted. “They’re beyond beautiful," he replied and smiled. "Is it your first time seeing this," the
girl asked. "No it is not my first time star gazing but it is my first time seeing the sky this nice,"
he said with amazement. They continued looking at the sky and after 10 minutes the girl stood up
and reached her hand to him. "Come I'll show you something," she said. He got her hand and
followed her. He found himself at the back of the garden. "Besides the view from above I also
like the view down below," the girl said and pointed below. There he saw skyscrapers and
buildings that give life to the city. It's like a reflection of what is above. He was amazed. He
didn't know that something as beautiful as this is just right at the corner of this building. He
looked at the girl and realized that she isn't like any other girl. She wore a cream colored dress
that complemented her big black eyes. Her brown wavy hair danced with the wind. And her
smile, her smile isn't like any other. Her smile gave color to his dull world. "I am Alice Walters,"
the girl introduced herself. "Patrick Williams," he answered. "If you don't mind me asking why
are you here?" Alice asked him. He didn't know what to answer at first but then he realized that
this girl won’t do any harm to him. "Stage 1 Leukemia," he said. Alice froze and thought to
herself, Alice what did you do? You insensitive brat. Alice didn't know what to say since she
expected Patrick to not answer her question. "I am sorry," Alice muttered. Patrick looked at her
with confusion on his face. "Why are you saying sorry?" “I don't know, I think I was being
insensitive." “It’s okay it’s not like I could hide this forever," he said and looked at her. Alice
face became pale so he asked her," Are you okay?" He went near her and touched her forehead.
Alice was shocked when Patrick did that. He looked at him and stared at him. "I am sorry, I
touched you without even thinking," he apologized. Alice smiled and started walking. "I think
we should go it's getting late now," she said to him. He nod his head and followed her. When
they arrived at the ground floor they bid their farewells. “Nice meeting you Patrick see you next
time," Alice said and gave him a peck on his cheek.

Patrick froze and as soon as Alice started walking away he shouted," Nice meeting you too
Alice, I hope I could return the small kiss you gave me next time we see each other again". He
saw how Alice's cheek became red. He walked to his room with a smile plastered on his face.
Days have passed and not even a single shadow showed up. He waited for Alice to come back to
the place where they met but to no avail she never returned until one day..... "Doctor, emergency
in Room 143G," the nurse shouted. Room 143G it’s the same room number as mine but for the
girls, Patrick thought to himself. Everyone panicked and started running towards the room. He
followed the staff and when he got to the room there he saw the girl he was dreading to see.
Alice was shaking and shouting non-stop. He could hear the pain from her voice. He couldn’t
bare it. He went inside the room and held her hand. "Alice I'm here, don't worry," he repeated it
many times just to keep Alice calm. After 30 minutes of chaos Alice finally calmed down.
"Thank you for staying by her side Patrick, she doesn't have any family here, “Nurse Mira told
him. Patrick felt pity on her. Nurse Mira also told him about Alice's condition. He was shocked
and didn't know what to say. He returned to his room silently. Alice woke up feeling very heavy
and sad. She stood up and walked outside. Many nurses asked her to return to her room but she
declined. She told the nurses that she wanted to see him. The nurses took pity on her and
accompanied her. She went to Patrick's room but he wasn't there, then an idea came to her mind.
"To the garden," she told them. When they arrived at the garden there they saw Patrick leaning
against the poles watching the sky above. "Pat," she called him. He looked at her and smiled.
"Why are you here?" he asked her. He also helped her to sit down. "I just want to see you one
last time," she said and a traitor tear rolled down her cheek. "One last time?" Patrick asked
confused with what she said. “I’ve been here for more than half of my life Patrick and until now
I am still not well. I heard the doctor and he said that I only have a day or two to live," she said
crying. "Before I go I just want to tell you that I love you. Even I only met you once you
captured my heart in an instant," she continued. Patrick felt something hot rolling down his
cheek. He was crying. "Alice I don't know what you have been through but please don't give up
now," he pleaded. “I am already so tired Pat, I am just fighting for my life because I still haven't
met the one for me but know that you are here I think I can go peacefully now," she said and
lifted his chin so that she could see him. “I love you so much Alice," he said. "Good to know that
you feel the same way too Pat," she said. Patrick felt something heavy on his shoulders and there
he saw Alice leaning against him, eyes closed and a smile plastered on her face. He knew in that
very moment she already left him. He cried and wept but after his lost he found inspiration in
Alice. Alice gave him courage to live on. Patrick stayed in the hospital for 3 years before he was
tested negative. He is now well and is starting to live his life to the fullest.
