Topic: Global Citizenship
Exercise: Being a Responsible Global Citizen

Procedure:
1. In your class, a country/state has been assigned to you for this activity. No two
individuals should have the same country/state assigned to him/her. Inform the
instructor if there are similarities in the assigned country/state.
2. Based on the country or state, identify its score and ranks on the following:
Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index, Organization for
Economic Cooperation and Development’s Better Life Index, Foreign Policy
magazine’s Failed States Index, World Bank’s Human Capital Index and UNDP’s
Health Index.

UNDP’s Health Index. 0.724 98

3. Based on the score and ranks of your country, what does it say about state
identity and governance? Does state power reflect good or bad effects to its
citizens?
We cannot neglect that having a lower indicators or indexes can be seen
in a negative aspect because such measures can be useful tools for analyzing
governance, and assessing development priorities. Although we cannot set aside
that the indexes has difficulty of measuring many of its components, as well as
the extremely poor quality of relevant statistics. That in the end of the day the
citizen the country is the one the one that will tell their satisfaction as they will
bring the name of their state. The country’s reflection is the citizen’s reflection.
4. Research on the COVID-19
response for your respective
country/state and create an
info graphics or a poster that
advocates their sense of
responsibility during this
pandemic.
The info graphic or poster should
consist of:
1) Statistics on population and
covid-19 infection
2) Implemented actions during
the covid-19 outbreak
(January-June 2020)
3) Minimum health protocols
observed in the country
4) Efforts and citizen perception
on covid-19 vaccine
It should provide information on how
to be a responsible citizen amidst
the COVID-19 Pandemic. You can
take the photo of the poster if you
would prefer. The info graphics can
be done even just in Microsoft Word.
You would just choose ONE TO DO-
either an actual poster or an online
info graphic. Below are examples of
info graphics but don’t feel pressured
as you can do simpler versions. A
collage with some texts will suffice.
5) Share your infographics or
photo of your poster with a
classmate/partner. Discuss
each other’s info graphics and
submit the material together
with the screenshot of the
discussion (The discussion
can be on messenger, viber,
gmail, or other online messaging platform). Answer the following questions
together:
a. How will you describe the experience? Were you able to send your message
from the infographics that you made?
The activity has both taught us what is the precautionary measure that each
country is doing that can be receive and understand through the infographics
that each one us has made.
b. What did you learn from your partner’s country?
Because of the protocol that the Greece has created it is now on the process
of flattening the curve as he said that the number of positive cases is
decreasing as the times goes by.
c. Do you think your country/state’s efforts in this pandemic are effective? What
could be possible improvements?
I think it has been effective in such manner, in line with this Paraguay is one
the country that has been to strict in terms of international boarder as they
close their airport for seven months. Although if I would suggest widening the
online engagement about pandemic is needed. But importantly strict
implementation of basic protocols should always be included.
Individually, answer the following questions:
a. How does institutions such as World Bank, IMF, World Health Organization,
United Nations aid your respective country during the pandemic?
Month after the pandemic World Bank supports Paraguay with US$20 million to
provide a prompt response to Covid-19. Paraguay is taking preventive measures
to protect its inhabitants and the Bank's resources will contribute to providing
more equipment and supplies to hospitals and health centers to treat those
affected. We are in an emergency situation where everyone's support is
fundamental" stated Benigno López, Minister of Finance of Paraguay. Then three
months after that experts from the IMF and Inter-American Development Bank
team visited the country to assess vulnerabilities to corruption. Their findings will
help in developing a national strategy and action plan to combat corruption and
improve governance and last month despite still the pandemic Paraguay together
with WHO calls for reinvigorated action to fight malaria in their country. While no
news about the response of United Nation specifically toward Paraguay, although
they are combating this global pandemic as a whole.

b. What does it mean to be a global citizen? What is the characteristic of a global

citizen? Do you think you are a global citizen and why?
A simple term to define global citizen is an individual who is aware of the world
and has a sense of their role in it. To become a global citizen, you will have to be
creative, flexible, dedicated and proactive. Global citizens take an active part in
the emerging international community and are committed to helping build this
community’s values and practices. Becoming a global citizen is not an easy task,
and that proves when I read the article of Jenny Clark on Seven Steps to be a
Global Citizen and make me realize that I am far to being a global citizen.
Because I always prefer myself in local discussion rather than in international
that gives me non involvement.
