Reading
K Read the text and decide if the statements (1-5) are R (right), W (wrong) or DS (doesn’t

Chris and Jim were so happy and excited as they got ready for their short trip to the countryside.
It was a new experience for them and the weather was perfect with no dark clouds in sight.
After arriving at the train station, they got on the train and quickly found their seats just before
the train set off. There was a lot of noise on the train, as children laughed and people talked
about their day. Chris had a window seat and was enjoying the great views when he saw
something strange on the tracks. He wasn’t sure what it was, as it looked half human and half
animal. All he knew was that he was frightened!
Then, the train’s speed dropped and everyone ran towards a window to see why. They were
terrified by what they saw. Suddenly, there was a loud noise as the train tried to stop so it
wouldn’t hit whatever was on the tracks. It didn’t stop in time, crashed into something and came
off the tracks. The last thing Chris and Jim heard were the screams of people all around them.
Later, they woke up and people from a rescue team were carrying them to an ambulance. They
felt very confused about what had happened after the train went off the tracks.
They were mostly relieved because they were OK and no one
got hurt in the accident.
They knew they were very lucky to be alive.

1 It was Chris and Jim’s first trip to the countryside.

2 Chris saw a creature he had seen before.

3 The creature caused the train derailment.

4 The rescue team arrived soon after the accident.

5 Most people were injured in the accident.
