METHODOLOGY

Analytical and numerical methods are the prevalent used methods

in the literatures . However , they are only applied to a simple system
with reduces constraints number .

In the case of more complex models , these exact methods are time
consuming o sometimes impossible to implement. Inded, maintenance
optimization in real industrial context is usually subjected to several
constraints and very complex to resolve , therefore many simulation
methods were used to overcome this problem . For example , evaluated
a multicomponent system performance drawing on Petri Network
combined with Monte Carlo Simulation .

The paper gives an overview of simulation-based optimization and

remarks that discrete event simulation (DES) dominates the literatures .
Although this method gives solution I a reasonable time , thee is no
guarantee if this solution is accurate and reliable .

New trend of maintenance optimization technique called

metaheuristics . This evolutionary method are based on mechanism
observed in nature and give an intelligent exploration and exploitation
of the optimization problem. It is worth mentioning that population
based heuristics , especially genetic algorithm (GA) , are the well-known
class of metaheuristics applied in maintenance optimization problem .

Maintenace optimization models for medical equipment are stil an

underexplored area . Based on mapping review , states that applying
mathematical model to optimize maintenance strategies in the
healthcare domain scarce and still in its infancy stage .
The few models proposed in the literatures are founded on critical
assumption such as constant failure rate regardless of equipment age ,
neglected maintenance time , complete maintenance history and
information .

Further , the few publications that appeared in the literature are

founded in several simpler assumption and employ classical optimization
methods . The paper proposed several mathematical models to find the
optimal periodic inspection interval for MD repairable system based on
minimal maintenance hypothesis .

The author used a recursive algorithm to find the solution , which makes
the model computationally hard and the time consuming . The paper
suggested a mixed-integer linear programming to solve an MD
maintenance scheduling problem using greedy algorithms .

Premature convergence to local optima is seen the biggest delimitation

of the local search algorithm employed in optimization models already
presented . These mathematical methods are also limited to the
assessment of failure rate excluding maintenance effectiveness . Then ,
taking into account the other assumptions makes the optimization model
more complex to solve by a classical exact approach .
DISCUSSION/RESULT/OUTPUT
The first usual output of these models is a determination
of timing decisions . Secondly , they can serve as a tool to
evaluate and compare difference maintenance strategies .

Optimization models can also provide an optimum

maintenance resources scheduling and planning and help to
specify maintenance resources requirement . Maintenance
optimization models for medical equipment result are
principally the determination of an optimal maintenance
inspection / replacement interval .

The paper evaluated and compares Pm to Cm strategy

and studies the implementations of CBM on healthcare domain
compared with the existing policy .

Even so , the assumption of promptly available maintenance

resources is regular in the literature and the author in this
researches area do not consider logistics in maintenance
optimization models .
