Position: Case Management Officer


Reports to: Protection Team Leader
Duty station: IDP Camps in Sittwe, Rakhine State
Duration and type of contract: Up to the 14th of October 2020

1. Role and responsibilities

Generic responsibilities

1. Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines.


2. Assist implementation of the protection portfolio according to plan of action.
3. Implement independently case management related activities as delegated.
4. Responsible for organizing and delivery of tasks in line with established procedures, agreed priorities,
international standards, and relevant guiding principles.
5. Provide quality and timely case management for identified general protection cases at high risk and/or
extremely vulnerable, in accordance with the best-practice and international protection standards.
6. Develop and maintain knowledge of protection, in order to be most effective in supporting the team.
7. Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
8. Ensure proper filing of documents.
9. Ensure that case management services are accessible to target beneficiaries most in need, and explore
and assess new and better ways to assist.
10. Promote and share ideas for technical improvement.

Specific responsibilities

 Work in collaboration with the Protection Team Leader and Project Manager to undertake detailed
assessments of beneficiaries.
 Work in collaboration with the Protection Team Leader and Project Manager to prepare an intervention
plan, including care plan and case summaries following a detailed assessment.
 Identify general protection cases at high risk and/or extremely vulnerableat, support case referrals
between agencies, conduct case follow-up and complete closing procedure of the case.
 Work with identified individuals and families to develop and implement response plans in accordance
with their needs, capacities and goals.
 Accompany cases to referral locations and conduct home visits, as needed.
 Provide information to individuals and families about their rights and entitlements, including what
services are available.
 Record and complete data entry for the assessment care plan follow-up information in the database, in a
timely manner and in accordance with relevant procedures.
 Ensure accurate data entry of all cases received.
 Ensure that all data and information pertaining to case management are handled in strict confidence, and
in line with applicable data protection and information sharing protocols.
 Collect and update information on services available, and service providers and protection actors.

 Compile information and report on achievements. Report internally to the Protection Team Leader on
weekly and monthly achievements; and for urgent cases, on a daily basis.

Critical interfaces
By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons.
Relevant interfaces for this position are:
 Target communities and key external stakeholders at village or camp level
 Other service providers and protection actors
 Protection Team Leader and Project Manager
 Protection Technical Monitoring Technical Assistants
 CC Teams in the geographical area of responsibility
 Emergency Team in the geographical area of responsibility
 Support Team in the geographical area of responsibility
 Community Consultation and Referral Officer in the area office
 M&E Team in the area office

Scale and scope of position


Staff: No staff directly managed by the post holder

Stakeholders: Civil society, community leaders and representatives, local authorities and
other duty bearers in targeted locations

2. Competencies
Competencies are important in order for the employee and the organisation to deliver desired results. They are

These are skills, knowledge and experience that are important for effective performance.

Generic professional competencies:


 Experience from working directly with affected/local communities within an international or local
organization in a humanitarian context.
 Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts.
 Previous experience in conducting case management or other Protection-related activities.
 Basic knowledge or interest in understanding of international standards, and Protection fundamental
concepts and guiding principles.
 Ability to analyse and integrate information from a wide range of sources.
 Knowledge of IT tools (MS Office package, internet, e-mail, etc.).
 Sufficient working knowledge of English.

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:


 Knowledge of the context in the geographical area of responsibility.
 Knowledge of a local language.

3. Performance Management
