Today was an unexpected day. First I introduced myself to the class and both of the teachers I
am working with, Mrs. Ballard and Mrs. Carter. The children were eating lunch so I had them all
tell me their names while they finished up their food. Now it was time for the kids to watch a few
read alongs that I helped pick out. They enjoyed watching the videos and afterwards they got to
talk about what they learned about trees. Then it was nap time. I helped the teachers lay out their
cots as the kids lined up to use the bathroom. Once all the children came back from the
bathroom, they made their beds and layed down. Some of the students had a hard time falling
asleep so I would sit next to them and pat their back or play with their hair until they were sound
asleep. There was a little boy who didn’t want to take a nap, so Mrs. Carter and I worked with
him on writing the letters of the alphabet. Eventually he got tired of that, then we played with
playdough. And once again he got tired of that, and he started screaming and crying and running
around the room. It was hard to get him to calm down but eventually he did. Then we handed
him a board game and in conclusion, he just didn’t like any of the choices that we gave him. Mrs.
Ballard took over and I kept helping other students fall asleep. When nap time was over, the kids
got up and went to the bathroom, then packed up their sheets. I helped the teachers put the cots
outside of the classroom, then it was time for the kids to practice their names. They sat on the
carpet and would raise their hand when they saw their name, then they would try to spell it out,
then clap how many syllables it has. Now it was time for recess. Since it had rained, they got to
play inside. After recess they went back upstairs, had a snack, then did stations. I walked around
The first thing I did when I walked in was say hi to all the students. We had two students present
who were absent on Tuesday so I got to learn their names and see their new faces. After the
students finished up their lunch, they all went to the bathroom like on day one. Then we had
them all make their beds on their cots and sit down for the read aloud. Today they got to learn
about apples and seeds, what they do, and how to grow them. They watched videos on someone
growing an apple tree, they watched a sing along apple video, and they watched a video about
Johnny Appleseed. Once the videos were over and everyone went to the bathroom, we sent them
to their cots for naptime. I helped a student named Hazel fall asleep and surprisingly she actually
slept the whole time! My host teachers told me that she has troubles falling asleep for nap time
but for some reason she slept today. Since nap time is two hours long and my host teachers had
given me some over the weekend homework, I decided to get a jump start. I traced out the letter
G on fourteen papers and then cut them out. And since I finished them all, I decided to observe
the class while they napped to make sure they were all asleep and to see if they needed help
falling asleep. Next it was time for them to practice their names again like on day one. Before
they lined up for recess, we had them jump the amount of syllables that are in their names. It gets
them more woken up for recess since they just had nap time. During recess I observed the kids
and noticed which ones I need to keep an eye out for during play time. Then after recess we all
went back to the room for their snack time. During snack time we let the kids talk and eat while
we discussed how it is working with preschoolers. I had many questions. Then the students got to
Today I came while the children were finishing up lunch. I walked around and observed them
and talked to them about their families. Then it was carpet time. The kids all closed their milk
cartons, put their masks on, dumped their trays, and then made their way to the carpet. They
watched three videos about different kinds of seeds and how they grow. Once those videos were
over, we put on relaxing music as the kids made their way to their cots that they prepared. Today
I sat with a little girl named Hazel and patted her back / played with her hair for a while. She
never fell asleep so one of my host teachers switched spots with me so that they could help her
fall asleep. I moved on to another little girl named Lili and she fell asleep instantly. It was very
hard to get all of the children asleep, we never fully got all of them to go to bed and some of
them ended up throwing fits about it. After nap time we placed their snacks and drink cartons on
each spot of the tables. Before snack time they go to recess, so we took them down to a small
gym area so that the kids could play with sports balls, rollers, hoola hoops, and more. I played
football with a little boy named Jamal and a little girl named Stella. After recess we took them
back upstairs and they ate their snacks. This is usually the time that parents will start picking up
their kids so we make sure to have their cots picked up. After snack, they had stations like
usual.Today I actually got to work on my own station which was bingo. I had a baggie full of
farm animals amyched up with a color so whoever would have, for example a blue background
with a cow on it, then they got the card. I played with a few different groups of kids and then it
Today was my last day interning at Gerner. Of course, like usual, when I arrived the children
were eating lunch. Today my lead host teacher wasn’t present, so I was with my “secondary”
host teacher and a sub lead teacher. While they ate, I helped place all of their cots out on the
floor. After lunch the children all sat down to watch videos over trees and apples. While they
watched the videos, I took advantage of my free time and decided to clean each of the tables,
wiping them down with soap and water. After the videos were over it was time for the kids to lay
down. I was partnered with a little boy named Rhett because he was having a hard time calming
down. We put calming videos on the screen for the kids to fall asleep to. Rhett never ended up
falling asleep so I let him read children's books while everyone else napped. Once he was calm
enough, I decided to work on my website. Nap time is two hours long so it was the perfect
moment to get some work done. After nap time I helped wake all of the kids up, then I put
snacks out on the tables while they used the bathroom. They then lined up and we took them
down for recess. While the kids were at recess I took photos of them all playing for my
internship two videos. I also got to speak to my sub lead teacher and she and I had much in
common. She gave me advice on college and more. After recess we walked the kids up to their
classroom and had them use the bathroom again. Then they ate their snack and switched to
stations. I worked with the kids in playdough, but I also went around and took pictures making
sure I got to spend time with each group before I left. Then I talked to my “secondary” teacher
and she announced that this was my last day.
