Naomi Ruiz is a San Antonio based painter that works with layered figures to depict built up

generational traumas. She explores with different transparent media’s layered on canvas to
show the idea of emotions and experiences and tries to push beyond the focus of the
representational figures.
Naomi received her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting from The University
of Texas San Antonio. She has participated in different art shows such as Print it up! at R.
Space Gallery in 2019, 4 Year Anniversary: Creative Creatures at Brick Gallery in 2018, and
First Friday Event at Blacknote Galleria in 2013. She has worked with The McNay Museum, as
an Art Guild, duties assisting with tours of the Museum and workshops given. Also, she has
worked as a Camp Counselor with the Art education at Lackland Air Force Base, supervising
and helped set up activities for the art space dedicated for the youth. Currently working as a
Program Coordinator of Ed Plus Upward Bound, a college prep program at two High Schools
located in San Antonio where providing cultural, career, and creative exploration is key. Her
long-term goals is to be able to continue creating artwork, find public art opportunities, and to
work in a occupation that will allow up to work with the arts and culture.
