Two days lacer, the racers are in Brasilia. Brian and David are there,

There is a lot of noise. People are talking co che

The engines of rhe motorcycles make a lot of noise.

'The race is starting,' David says.

The first day is OK. The roads are good. The racers see many
small rowns and villages. People stand near the road and watch
them.

The racers are putting on their helmets.

'Here, rry chis,' David says. He gives Brian sorne glue. Brian puts
some glue on his engine, but it comes out very slowly.
'Quickly, Brian! The race is going to start,' David says.
But oil is leaking from Brian's engine.
'Quickly!' David says again.
The oil stops. Brian puts on his
helmet and gets on his motercycle.

The race srans very early on the third day in rhe jungle.
In the afternoon Brian and David stop. The jungle is very
beautiful, but rhey aren't looking at ir. They are looking for rhe town
ofUna-Una.
'Where are we now?' Brian asks.
'l don't know.'
'Is this the road ro Una-Una?'
'Idon'r know,' David says again.
'Where are rhe racers?' Brian
asks. 'Can you hear rhem?'
They stop their engioes and listen.
The jungle is quiet. Then tbey hear

says. 'Whar is it?' David

She lives in the jungle because she's

'Are you miners? The miners wanr this place. Sometimes rhey
come here and rhey kili the Indians,' Astrid says.
'We aren't miners. We're motorcycle racers,' David says. 'We wanr

Astrid calks to Maoni, the lndian chief. Maoni listens and talks ro
his men. They aren'r angry now.
'The miners are coming ro the village,' Asrrid says. 'ChiefMaoni
knows tbat. They're going ro kill his men.'
'Let's get the police, Astrid,' Brian says. At seven o'dock in the morning, Brian and Caruak get on
