Indian colonization

Sweatshops
A sweatshop is a factory or workshop, usually regarding the clothing industry, were people are
employed to work manually for long hours a day and getting paid low wages. The working
conditions at these sweatshops are really harmful usually socially unexceptable and even illegal
working conditions. The people who worked in sweatshops were of the lower class people, they had
to work in sweatshops to try and support their families.

Sweatshops had been originated between 1830 and 1850. Sweatshops became a big attraction to
many of the wealthier countries and cities, so those countries and cities decided to have their own
take on sweatshops.
Women Rights
The women in India did not have many rights during the time of colonization but they had been
granted a few rights and that included the right to possess and manage their own “Handed Property”
and estate and the guardians of their children.

But women were looked down at during the british rule. The position of a women reached the lowest
level in society. The wife's place in the household was in a distressed condition. Women had to go
through child marriage, purdah, and give the husbands family dowry.
Child Soldiers
Child Soldiers are a big thing around the world, the reason for this is in families when a male is born he is
automatically enrolled into the soldiers army. Sometimes the children need to be enrolled earlier this could be
from a lack of soldiers, your elder that was in the war dyed or sometimes your family has “debt” and going into
the army would fix the debt.

How do the citizens respond to this issue?

The UN committee found out about the child soldiers and they did something about it, in 2011 there was a law
in-place to not allow child soldiers the citizens were very happy about this law but still today there are child
soldiers but it is worked under the table.
Child Labour
What is Child Labour? “Child labour refers to the exploitation of children through any form of work that deprives
children of their childhood, interferes with their ability to attend regular school, and is mentally, physically,
socially or morally harmful” (google dictionary)

Child labour happens all across the world, in india they have child labour till this day. The main one is in the Mica
industry. This is super dangerous for children but they still do it, the main reason they don't use adults in the
mica industry is because the children can fit in small spaces but this is a horrible thing. The “owners/leaders” are
telling this kids if you do not do it your family will get killed so the children get scared and they do it out of fear,
this can also happen if your parents are in debt with the program so they have to enroll their kids

Is this topic important in the human rights? Yes it is super important because it is not right to have kisd die in
this industry and on top of that they don't even care to pay them.
British Colonial Rule Over India
● The british rule over India had its pros and cons.
● What were the cons? When the british started to rule India it came with many cons some of them are:

ECONOMIC SUBJUGATION:

● AGRICULTURE: The british made the the Indians work and the profits that they made went to the zamindars and in turn to
british not to cultivators. As the money went by, there wasn't any capital to improve agriculture, and therefore there ended
up being no technology adaption, further irritated the dismal level of agriculture.
● TRADE: The money that the Indians made from exporting silk, cotton, sugar, and wool went straight to the British
government. They had to pay for the war expenses and the salaries of the British employees this led to the draining of
India's wealth.
● What were the pros?
● EDUCATIONAL REFORMS: The christian missionaries encouraged women's education. They build universities for the
education in Madras, Calcutta, and Bombay but they did this to hire cheap clerks for their administration and made them
become english obsessed countries.
