1. What does the quote imply?

Albert Camus became known for his political journalism and essays. Aside from that the he was
also known for his philosophy mentioned above. The quote implies that culture is the basic
foundation of society. It plays a vital role in one’s life and serves as a path towards unity and
belongingness of the members of society. In the line ‘society, even when perfect, is but a jungle’,
is a fact for a society without culture is just like a jungle full of wild plants and animals.
Authentic creation implies the acceptance of every member of the society in the beliefs as
conforming to a fact, thus, it is a gift for the better future.

2. Why does having a culture important to society?

Culture is our way of life. It includes our values, beliefs, customs, languages and
traditions.  Culture is reflected in our history, in our heritage and in how we express ideas and
creativity.
Our culture measures our quality of life, our vitality and the health of our society.  Through our
culture we develop a sense of belonging, personal and cognitive growth and the ability to
empathize and relate to each other. Direct benefits of a strong and vibrant culture include health
and wellness, self-esteem, skills development, social capital and economic return. Culture is
present in many aspects of our daily lives.  Culture is a key part of wellness and learning, and
can play a role in healing and social development.
