Dear friends and colleagues,
1 am glad to say that despite the severe disruption caused by the
COVID crisis and the lockdown, we have progressed well with the
GIAP initiative against all odds. This note is an update on some
fundamental elements of the initiative
1. Professional Education - Reaching the unreached with complete
pediatrics education
a, DCOE - Certificate Courses and Modules
The subspecialty chapters have recommended over 700 topics across 17 plus
subspecialties.
The dIAP academic council is organizing the topics and modules for all subspecialties
to ensure content across all areas of pediatrics. This activity is under the guidance of
Dr Dheeraj Shah.
Recording and editing lectures are proceeding at a fast pace of 20 per week, and we have
already completed the preparation of 250 professionally edited lectures.
We expect to meet our target of publishing over 500 topics, covering 40 plus modules by
December 2020 and 700+ topics and 100+ modules by March 2021. Each module will be
published along with pre-tests and post-tests with an online certificate for completion.
b. DCOE - Annual dissemination plan
We are creating an annual dissemination plan for 70+ modules for the next year under
Dr. Piyush Gupta’s leadership. The annual plan for each module includes a few national
webinars for trainers and aver 100 local events conducted by regional and local chapters
of IAP. These include workshops, online case study clinics, RTMs, etc. Many locations
will also find support for additional physical classroom sessions when the pandemic
concerns go down
These annual plans will ensure academic activity across the country, distributed
rationally by geography and topics covered. We are laying the ground for 2021 to see
well planned and organized academic training at a never before coverage and reach in
aP history.
Scanned with CamScannerPresident's Message
All our members will be able to plan their annual academic calendars well in advance
and participate.
c. DCOE experience and activity
We have conducted over 1000 academic events so far, and total attendance has exceeded
2 million. We can confidently say that we now have the experience to reliably deliver
education support for the extensive nationwide programs planned for 2021. This
acquired expertise is for online education, hybrid education (online plus offline), and
offline classroom education supported by high-quality IAP recorded content.
Our industry support program is maturing fast. We have successfully conducted most
events, and cross-subsidized these events’ costs by income from a few (about 10%)
supported events. We expect to successfully support the nationwide programs planned
for 2021 using the same model.
d, DCOE and IcP
Experience and capabilities gained with DCOE will accelerate the formation and support
for a vibrant, fully functional ICP
We look forward to supporting Dr. Piyush Gupta to add this further outstanding
achievement of establishing ICP in 2021.
2. Conferences
We have established a conference platform and capabilities to conduct conferences of
varying degrees of complexity with 3-D conference layouts.
This platform has already conducted five regional Pediweeks so far, with more planned
in the coming months and a national Pediweek in December.
This platform development has, however, come at an unplanned cost to the dlAP
program,
Besides, each conference requires custom work and additional charges. We are in the
process of covering up those costs from other available budgets to ensure that dlAP
core programs remain unaffected. We have also put in a policy whereby the minimum
customization costs are paid for future conferences.

3. dIAP Point of Care Program
1 am delighted to say that a pilot program in cooperation with NSDL eGovernance Limited,
National Cancer Tissue Biobank of IIT Madras, and other institutions starts in November. A
successful pilot will help us make the services available to all our members in 2021 to benefit
100 million children treated by our 32,000 member pediatricians.
Under the pilot program, the services are the following, with direct leadership and advice from
Dr. Piyush Gupta (and his nominees) for cancer, inborn errors of immunity, and nutritional
assessment and advisory program.
+ Catch Pediatric Cancer - CPC - Enable early diagnosis of pediatric cancer. 70% of these cases
do not get diagnosed early today.
+ SpotInborn Errors of Immunity - SIEI - Enable early diagnosis of Pediatric Immunodeficiency.
95% of these cases do not get diagnosed early today.
+ Nutrition Assessment and Advisory Program - NAAP - Enable nutritional assessment and
advisory services to patients of all pediatric clinics. 90% of all children have some nutritional
deficiency.
+ Behavioral and Neuro Development Program - BND - Enable developmental assessments
and developmental programs to special needs children. 10% of all children have special needs.
We are also planning to include a Tuberculosis program.
The clinics will also get an IAP owned Practice Management and Diagnostic Support System
with a virtual clinic & telemedicine, extending the clinic to its patients. This is supported
and secured by India's leading eGovernance and Citizen Data Security company ~ NSDL.
eGovernance Ltd. (PAN, TIN, GST, Aadhar, etc.)
In the coming months and in 2021, the continued close working partnership, this jugalbandi
between Dr. Piyush Gupta and myself, supported ably by Dr G V Basavaraja will deliver success
to IAP on these nationally important solutions to enhance pediatrics in India
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Bakul Jayant Parekh
