Course Reflective Summary

It is so hard to believe that this semester is coming to an end. This semester has

definitely been an interesting one since I have been working in the healthcare field and going to

nursing school during a global pandemic. Even though everything except for clinical has been

online this semester, I have been able to learn a lot in Med-Surg II.

Throughout this semester, I have learned a lot about how to work in an interdisciplinary

approach. One way that I have learned to do this was in clinical. We had to work together with

the nurses to come up with an appropriate plan of care for our patients. In addition, we had to

work together with our peers to care for the patients and delegate different tasks when we

were team facilitator. In the lecture setting, the Neurodegenerative Disorder group project

allowed for an interdisciplinary approach as well. We worked in a group to present a

neurodegenerative disorder, which implemented communication, collaboration and teamwork.

Group projects and working together in the clinical setting will allow for us to learn how to work

in an interdisciplinary approach as future nurses.

Another thing that I learned this semester was how to appropriately come up with a

care plan for a real-life patient. Care plans were something that I really struggled with at first

because I found them to be overwhelming. However, as this semester is coming to an end, I am

feeling more confident with coming up with care plans through utilizing the nursing process to

meet patient needs in order to positively impact their overall health. In addition, being able to

have face to face contact with patients has allowed for me to identify ways to promote a safe

environment while embodying a caring attitude. One of my favorite assignments that we did
this semester that ties into this same category was the Nursing Process Project. For the project,

we were asked to write a paper regarding a patient that we took care of in clinical this

semester. This project gave me the ability to look up critical information, ask the patient

questions regarding their medical history, research medications and come up with a full care

plan for the patient. This project allowed me to use my critical thinking skills and further

develop nursing knowledge. These experiences will allow for me to demonstrate the same

caring, safe practice in my future career as a nurse.

Overall, I have really enjoyed this semester and I have learned so much. Although this

semester hasn’t been ideal, I am so glad that we were able to have lectures through Zoom and

have in person clinical. I will most definitely continue to build on what I’ve learned this

semester to strive to become the best possible nurse I can be.
