PLANNING YOUR WEBSITE: STEPS

 Know what YOU want BEFORE designing the site. Ask around. Look at lots of sites: sister organizations,
national sites, sites dealing with other issues. Make lists of content, features, and design elements you like and
don’t like. Look at things like the location of the navigation bar, color schemes, and the use of animations.
 Define your audience. Think Expansively. Think about who do you think will be viewing your website, or who
do you want to reach through it. It may also be important to ask if your intended audience have internet access
or actively use the web.
PLANNING YOUR WEBSITE: STEPS

 To help organize your thoughts, it's often helpful to make an outline of all the content that you plan to
include.
 Design your web site from the perspective of your audience. Think about what information they be
looking for or what they want to see in your site. Make sure the important things are easily accessible
from your home page and not buried three clicks deep. Label the various sections (especially your
main navigation bar) clearly and accurately. Use conventional names in naming your links such as
"About Us" or "Feedback" for easier navigation by visitors.
