1. The sound of the shell is related to the chapter because the conch shell that makes sound to call
the choir boys and Jack.

2. Fire on the mountain is related to the chapter because the group used piggy’s glasses to create a
fire in order to be rescued, but the fire went out of control and eventually lit out.

3. Huts on the beach is related to the chapter because there are two very broken huts on the island
that piggy and Jack repaired.

1. The mask compelled them.

2. The bolting look came into his blue eyes.

3. The buzz from the hunters was one of admiration at this handsome behaviour.

4. Ralph asserted his chieflainship and could not have chosen a better way if he had thought for
days. Against this weapon, so indefinable and so effective, Jack was powerless and raged without
knowing why. By the time the pile was built, they were on different sides of a high barrier.

Chapter 4 “Painted faces and long hair”

1. At the beginning of chapter 4, the behaviour of the boys was described as playful as they’re
playing in the water and building sandcastles in the sand. This scene has thematic significance
because it shows the boys don’t care what happens at the end of the day.

Piggy was dead, and the conch smashed to powder.

You don’t know Roger. He’s a terror. And the chief-they’re both- terrors.

The fools! The fools! The fire must be almost at the fruit trees-what would they eat tomorrow.

And in the middle of them, with filthy body, matted hair, and unwiped nose, Ralph wept for the end
of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart, and the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called
piggy.
