Re: Report of the Concord Classic

The Concord Classic is an annual event for the village of Concord to celebrate friendships,
sports, and music. It is a weekend event hosted by the school and village on the last Saturday of
June. The weekend is full of activities like basketball and volleyball tournaments, 5k run, euchre
tournament, pig roast, live bands, and a corn hole tournament. It is thrown every year to bring the
town together.
Summary
This celebration takes months of planning, it takes many members of the community to plan
along with donations from the businesses within the community. The local school and athletic
department is responsible for planning all the sports events, the art students are responsible for
making and painting the cornhole boards as well. The village plays a big part in planning the
dining, decor, expected attendance, and other activities.
Attendees
The event is open invitation, anyone is welcome to come celebrate even if they do not live in
concord. The expected attendance each year is over 1000 people during the weekend, with a flux
of people in the afternoon. The event runs through 4pm to 2am on Friday, 6:30am to 2am on
Saturday, and 6:30am to late afternoon on Sunday. The turnout was what was expected, but there
was a shortage of food and seating.
Activities
To participate in any number of the activities held throughout the day you and your team are
required to sign up prior to the events because of time and the number of attendees. There are
prizes awarded to teams that win some activities such as the basketball, volleyball, and cornhole
tournament. The prizes included money, gift cards, and gift baskets. At the end of the day the
cornhole tournament is the final event and then the boards are auctioned off to the people in the
community.
Feedback
This year's event was very successful in bringing the community together, everyone was
conversing, dancing, and having a good time together as a whole. Many people thanked the
school and village that put so much hard work into the event. The only problem was the food
shortage, as well as the lack of seating. These issues were not a big problem to the community
but will be addressed and improved for next year's event.
Recommendations
For next year's event it is important to keep the school as well as the students involved in the
planning because about half of the attendees are children and teenagers, any input from the
students should be taken into account to make the event more kid friendly. Although the
weekend was a success there are minor improvements to be made, such as making it easier to
sign up for events and advertising.
