2020 2020

With this task, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcome: The student will be able to speak Orally in English by means of a job
question through the practice of a specific method described along the stages in
order to prepare him/herself for the work interview.

In the first part -Task 2, you created your curriculum vitae and, in this second part
-Task 4, connected also with Task 5, your will prepare your job interview to have
excellent working opportunities in your real life. You are getting close to improve
your professional career.
You can read about this, here: https://bit.ly/39tYAqU

This task consists of: 4 stages and all of them are required to prepare your job
interview and get the work of your dreams. So, it is important for you to follow and
complete all the stages.

1
1.1. Check out and study the online content, Module 7 - lessons 1 and 2.

1.2. Check out and study the online content, Module 2- lesson 1 and Module 3,
lesson 1.

This stage will help you to comprehend structures expected to be incorporated to

your Oral speech during the work interview.

2
2. Communicative Input (Individual work)

2.1. Read the following questions so you can track the answers before you watch
the video.

- Are they using any kind of non-verbal language such as gestures, body
position (hands), or facial expressions while talking or listening to each other?
Study them carefully.
- Can you notice the fluctuation in the tone and intonation of their voices? Try
to identify them.
- Is it evident any type of outfit they are using for the interview?
- Do you recognize any expression or word you have heard before? Write them
down for you to check them out later on.

2.2. Enter this link: https://bit.ly/3gb13Jj and follow these instructions:

- Watch and listen to the video (as many times as necessary), activating the
subtitles in English. The idea is to identify expressions, whole sentences and
to familiarize them with these sounds in English. Make sure you feel relaxed
while doing it. (This is quite important). All you have to do is to make sure
3
you understand the meaning of every single word or expression spoken
during the conversation.

- After this is done, you are ready for the next step: Watch the video again
without subtitles of any kind as many times as needed. The purpose of this
is to watch and listen trying to understand at least 60% of more of the whole
conversation without reading. If you feel it is necessary, play the video until
you get it.

This stage is a very effective exercise to improve your Listening skills. It is

important for you to recognize that the success of this stage as part of the process
of learning to speak English, depends on your practice of the exercises suggested
above. So, it absolutely depends on you.

3. Communicative Output (Individual work)

3.1. Choose just one out of the following 5 scripts to do this exercise. The scripts
reciprocate to 5 different questions from a regular job interview. Post in the
Speaking forum the number of the script you chose, so no one else picks the
same.

Question: How did you hear about the position open

with our company here?

“Well, when I heard about the opportunity of changing locations and moving
from one physical location to another, I thought about making a career move
as well. And I was starting with my main interests and passion. And I love
being outside, I love doing outdoor activities, and I love working with people.
When I was looking Online, I found this website and that there were positions
available in this city area so I thought I would apply”.

Question: What else do you know about our company?

“I know you’ve been around for a long time since the late nineteen-thirties
(1930’s), and what really caught my attention was the idea that it was started
4
by people who had a passion for the outdoors and found the way to involve
others in their experience. I like the idea too that your company is
consistently ranked among the top 100 companies to work for”.

Question: Why do you want this particular position here

within our customer service department?

“Because I wanted to start in a position that allows me to learn everything

about the company from the very basic level of interacting with the customers
all the way up throughout the sales process, the marketing process and the
production of goods and services. When I saw the opportunity with customer
service, I thought this was a skill set that I had and that I could bring to the
company”.

Question: Can you tell me a little bit more about the

skills that you transfer from your previous line of work
to our department here?

“Sure, in education is all about making the customer or student feel

comfortable and helping them grow. I feel that within a company like this it’s
the same philosophy, getting a customer comfortable with the product and
helping them grow as they advance in whatever the sport, they happen to be
participating in.

Question: Why do you think our company should hire

you specifically amongst our pool of candidates?

“Sure, I think one skill set I have, involves my background in education;

teachers are among the highest stressed professionals in the workplace and
this company offers a number of products that help alleviate stress by getting
people outdoors and teachers have a lot of downtime in the summers. My
thinking is that once I learn the ropes and advance with the company, I’ll be
able to market the services and products this company offers.

3.2. Divide the script you selected into small sentences using the NaturalReader
tool.

5
Then, listen up actively to each part
of them as many times as you find
it necessary until you are able to
repeat them without reading.

The idea of this exercise is that at

the end, you will feel confident to
express the whole paragraph and
mean it instead of memorizing word
by word.

Focus on the message instead of the words. Remember, we learned Spanish

because we listened and repeated words and expressions we heard so, we learned
by associating them with ideas, not with words.

3.3. Once all this is done, record a video of

yourself showing your face and
answering to the question you chose in
the script using the tools learned so far.

Facial expressions, non-verbal

language, intonation, fluctuations, etc.
are important aspects. You cannot read
aloud; otherwise, your video will not be
graded.

Upload the video to YouTube or Google Drive and share the link in the
forum. If you developed your own answer you can use it instead, only if it
contains the same amount of lines and ideas of the script. It will be assessed
with the very same criteria. This stage will help you to prepare for the work
interview.

6
4. Communicative Output (Collaborative work)

4.1. Then, reply in the forum to one of the videos posted by your e-mates. The
opinion stated has to be written in English according to the level you are
enrolled in and it has to be meaningful and elaborated. Use a minimum of 70
words to provide your opinion.
